Context
The Traffic & Detour SME within the PMCM team oversees the planning, review, and implementation of traffic management and detour schemes for large-scale infrastructure projects. The role is responsible for ensuring all traffic diversions, detours, and temporary traffic control measures are safe, efficient, and comply with project requirements and regulatory standards throughout pre-construction, construction, and commissioning phases.

The Traffic & Detour SME within the PMCM team oversees the planning, review, and implementation of traffic management and detour schemes for large-scale infrastructure projects. The role is responsible for ensuring all traffic diversions, detours, and temporary traffic control measures are safe, efficient, and comply with project requirements and regulatory standards throughout pre-construction, construction, and commissioning phases.
Missions/Main Duties
- Review and provide technical expertise on traffic management plans, detour and diversion schemes, and temporary traffic control strategies.
- Lead constructability and feasibility reviews for all proposed traffic and detour schemes to ensure minimal impact on the public and project delivery.
- Approve contractors’ traffic diversion designs, method statements, and phasing plans in line with relevant codes and regulations.
- Oversee and audit implementation of traffic management measures onsite, ensuring safety compliance and coordination with all stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with project management, contractors, government officials, and local agencies to obtain necessary permits and coordinate road closures, detours, and traffic reconfigurations.
- Identify risks related to traffic management, propose mitigation strategies, and keep project teams informed of potential impacts.
- Track milestones and performance indicators for traffic and detour works, supporting project schedule and progress reporting.
- Participate in the inspection and handover of temporary traffic arrangements, and support resolution of issues during the Defects Liability Period (DLP).
- Prepare and submit regular technical reports, updates, and recommendations to the client and project stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in traffic management and detour planning in major infrastructure or road projects, with focus on PMCM environments.
- Strong knowledge of local and international standards related to temporary traffic management and detour design
- Proven experience in reviewing and approving traffic management plans and strategies for large construction sites.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in relevant traffic simulation and planning tools is preferred.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Middle East experience will be preferred
- Must be a member of a Chartered Institution
