MEP Coordinator

Job Summary:

Primary Function The MEP Project Lead/Coordinator, serving as a Team Lead, is responsible for the successful execution, integration, and coordination of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for assigned projects. This role includes leading the MEP project team, ensuring the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, in addition to the core technical and coordination duties.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Project Leadership & Management:

• Project Oversight: Take overall responsibility for the planning, execution, and closure of the MEP scope of the project.
• Budget & Schedule Management: In association with site QS – Develop, monitor, and manage the MEP budget and detailed installation schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall master project plan.
• Risk Management: Proactively identify potential risks, conflicts, or roadblocks within the MEP disciplines and develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact for the project manager, clients, architects, and main contractors regarding all MEP matters.
• Reporting: Prepare and present regular progress reports to the Head of MEP / senior management, highlighting key achievements, risks, and resource requirements.

2. Team Leadership & Development:

• Team Supervision: Manage, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the MEP project team (engineers, inspectors, etc.).
• Work Delegation: Clearly define and delegate tasks to team members, ensuring optimal distribution of workload and effective resource utilization.
• Performance Management: Monitor team performance, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate necessary training or development opportunities.

3. Technical Coordination & Consultancy

• Design Review & Compliance: Review MEP design documents, shop drawings, and technical submittals for accuracy, compliance with project specifications, and adherence to relevant codes and standards.
• Clash Detection & Resolution: Lead the MEP coordination process (often using BIM/Navisworks) to identify and resolve clashes and conflicts between all MEP services, structural, and architectural elements before site installation.
• On-Site Monitoring: Conduct frequent site inspections to oversee the quality and progress of MEP installation, ensuring compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Technical Problem-Solving: Provide on-site technical advice and immediate solutions to construction teams for MEP-related issues as they arise.

4. Quality & Handover

• Inspections & Sign-offs: Coordinate and attend inspections (concealed works, material delivery) with contractors, QA/QC, and consultants, ensuring all necessary sign-offs are obtained.
• Testing & Commissioning: Oversee and drive the testing, adjusting, and commissioning (T&C) phase of all MEP systems, ensuring they function as per design intent.
• Close-Out Documentation: Manage the preparation and submission of all final project documentation, including as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and final punch lists.
