Job Description
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Field Engineer-Tunnels (Saudi National) to join our team!
What You'll Be Doing;
- Oversee daily construction activities related to tunnel excavation, support systems, waterproofing, and structural works.
- Review construction drawings, method statements, and specifications to ensure correct implementation on site.
- Provide technical guidance on tunnel methodologies including NATM, cut-and-cover, microtunneling, and utility corridors.
- Monitor alignment, grades, and construction tolerances, ensuring compliance with design requirements.
- Conduct site inspections and checks on materials, equipment, and workmanship.
- Identify technical issues on site and coordinate with design teams and contractors to resolve them.
- Work closely with civil, structural, geotechnical, and MEP teams to ensure tunnel interfaces are correctly managed.
- Coordinate subcontractors and ensure tunnel works align with the overall project construction sequence and schedule.
- Participate in construction progress meetings, inspections, and issue resolution sessions.
- Enforce strict adherence to project safety protocols, especially within confined and underground working environments.
- Conduct and participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and risk assessments for tunnel activities.
- Ensure proper implementation of ventilation, lighting, emergency egress, and HSE controls in tunnel operations.
- Maintain detailed records of daily site activities, inspections, and issues related to tunneling works.
- Review and approve construction submittals, method statements, and inspection test plans (ITPs) specific to tunnel activities.
- Support the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports, highlighting tunnel construction status, risks, and mitigation measures.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers and field inspectors on tunnel-related construction practices.
- Act as a liaison between the contractor, design consultants, and client representatives for all tunneling-related matters.
- Drive continuous improvement in tunnel construction quality and productivity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in field engineering, with a focus on tunnel construction within large infrastructure projects.
- Proven involvement in airport infrastructure, rail, metro, or highway tunnel projects.
- Strong understanding of tunnel construction methods, support systems, ground behavior, and safety measures.
- Familiar with tunnel waterproofing systems, utility integration, and concrete and structural detailing.
- Experience with field quality control, inspection tools, surveying coordination, and technical documentation.
- Strong coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and manage field changes efficiently.
- Certification in tunneling or geotechnical engineering (e.g., CET, ICE, or ITA-AITES).
- Experience with tunnel boring machines (TBM), microtunneling, or pipe jacking.
- Familiarity with project standards such as BS, EN, ACI, or FAA/ICAO for subsurface infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or BIM tools for tunnel layout verification.
- Experience in working on government-regulated or aviation-related infrastructure.
- Proficiency in English; Arabic language skills are a plus.
