Context

The Engineering Design Expert - Track is responsible for providing advanced technical expertise in the design and development of railway track systems. This role involves working closely with project teams to deliver innovative and efficient track design solutions that meet industry standards and client requirements. The expert will also contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Develop and deliver high-quality track design solutions for various projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to design teams, ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align design objectives with project goals.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and evaluation of design proposals, identifying potential risks and recommending improvements.
  • Prepare and review design documents, drawings, and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in rail track design technologies and methodologies.
  • Participate in design reviews, workshops, and technical meetings to provide expert insights and recommendations.
  • Attending / chairing meetings for track design related issues during design and construction and provide technical support for their mitigation.
  • Support the client with identifying change, risk and opportunities and constantly striving for efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Aid in the study of optimization and liaison with the commercial, planning, design delivery teams, and designers.
  • Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of track related issues.
  • Provide technical input and support to relevant commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc.)
  • Support delivery of progressive technical assurance during design, construction and handover process.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and designers to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of design standards and procedures.

Profile/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in railway track design, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of railway engineering principles, track design standards, and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Bentley Rail Track, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience relevant to rail track on major construction projects, including design, modeling, or construction support.
  • A sound understanding of rail design codes.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation, impact mitigation and dealing with statutory authorities.
  • Experience in managing and liaising with third parties and other contractors
  • Very good communication skills
