The Road Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising site construction activities related to road, highway, and infrastructure projects. The role ensures that construction works are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, contractual requirements, and project schedules. The Project Engineer coordinates with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams to achieve successful project delivery.
Your role
Site Planning and Execution
- Plan and coordinate daily road construction activities in line with project schedules and milestones.Review drawings, specifications, and work programs to ensure effective project execution.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and material resources required for site activities.
- Monitor work progress and recommend corrective actions to address schedule deviations.
- Supervise construction activities including earthworks, grading, embankment construction, subgrade preparation, pavement works, drainage systems, culverts, and road furniture installation.
- Ensure all activities are carried out according to approved drawings, project specifications, and engineering standards.
- Monitor productivity and construction quality on site.
- Resolve site-related technical issues in coordination with the design and project teams.
- Coordinate with survey teams, quality inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
- Track construction progress and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Attend site meetings and provide technical updates to project management.
- Ensure compliance with project HSE plans and company safety requirements.
- Conduct site inspections and participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Identify potential hazards and support implementation of mitigation measures.
- Promote a strong safety culture among site personnel and subcontractors.
- Ensure construction activities comply with quality requirements and project specifications.
- Coordinate inspections, material approvals, and laboratory testing activities.
- Monitor corrective actions for quality non-conformities.
- Support preparation of inspection and test records.
- Monitor receipt, storage, and utilization of construction materials.
- Ensure proper handling of materials to prevent damage and wastage.
- Coordinate equipment mobilization and utilization to support project schedules.
- Supervise subcontractor activities and monitor performance against project requirements.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with quality, safety, and schedule targets.
- Verify completed work quantities and progress achievements.
- Maintain site records, inspection reports, daily progress reports, and technical documentation.
- Ensure only approved and latest revisions of drawings and documents are used on site.
- Assist in preparation of as-built drawings and project close-out documentation.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in road, highway, or infrastructure construction projects.
- Experience in site supervision and coordination of road construction activities.
- Familiarity with road construction methods, specifications, and quality standards.
