Job Description

The Chief Executive Director (CED) is the strategic and operational leader of the organization, responsible for the development, implementation, and management of organizational strategies that align with the organization's mission and vision. The CED will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including board members, staff, and external partners, to create a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability. Leveraging comprehensive industry knowledge and a results-oriented approach, the CED will represent the organization in high-level negotiations, public engagements, and advocacy, while ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth through strategic financial planning. This role demands a transformative leader capable of driving change, fostering collaborative relationships, and inspiring high performance within a complex environment.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in an executive role within a similar industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and executing strategic initiatives that significantly forward organizational objectives.
  • Extensive experience in governance, public relations, and stakeholder engagement, with a strong understanding of nonprofit or public sector dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage high-performing teams, encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management, financial forecasting, and resource allocation to achieve optimal operational efficiency.
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, with a capacity to anticipate industry trends and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Robust communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in conveying complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Deep understanding of compliance, regulatory issues, and risk management within the operational landscape of the organization.
  • Advanced degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is highly preferred.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership, setting the strategic direction for the organization in conjunction with the board of directors.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders including clients, partners, donors, and community leaders to expand organizational influence.
  • Drive the organization's mission and vision by developing, executing, and monitoring annual operating plans that meet strategic goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the financial performance of the organization, ensuring sound fiscal management and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead talent management initiatives, including recruitment, training, and development of a diverse workforce that reflects the organization's values.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and accountability, supporting teams in exploring new ideas and methodologies to enhance service delivery.
  • Represent the organization in engagements that promote strategic partnerships and funding opportunities at local, national, and international levels.
  • Ensure effective communication across the organization and with external constituents, including regular updates to the board on organizational performance.
  • Monitor the external operating environment for dynamics that may impact the organization’s strategic objectives and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Drive data-driven performance assessments to evaluate organizational effectiveness and guide future initiatives.
