Join a professional maritime engineering team as Chief Engineer aboard our fleet of vessels. This leadership role is responsible for overall technical management of the engine department, safe and efficient operation of propulsion and auxiliary systems, planned and corrective maintenance, compliance with statutory and company requirements, and stewardship of the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS). The Chief Engineer will report to the Master, supervise marine engineering personnel, coordinate with shoreside technical support, and ensure operational readiness for all machinery, systems, and fuel/oil management.
Primary Responsibilities for Chief Engineer - technical leadership, maintenance, safety

The role of the Chief Engineer is to manage the Engine Department and the Maintenance of the vessel and thereby enhance the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.

The Chief Engineer is appointed Fire Team Controller and will for firefighting purpose act as On-the-Scene Commander.

The primary function of the Chief Engineer is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Engine Department and proper maintenance of vessel, plant and equipment.

Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
-
Keeping of operational standard and the maintenance and repair of hull, structure and all mechanical and electrical equipment.

Maintaining machinery as per the Company’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and classification requirements. Raise defect forms and forward to the assigned Company Technical Superintendent as per procedures.

Administer the SMS budget including purchasing and ensure budgetary control is maintained by all departments.

Responsible for all fixed and portable fire-fighting equipment.

Their responsibilities also include the planning and logging of working hours for the engine room crew and the organization of the onboard safety-training program for emergency in close co-operation with the Chief Officer and the Safety Officer.

Responsible for the maintenance of technical operation records and files and for keeping a sufficient stock of bunkers and lubricants as well as ordering according to Company Procedures.

Responsibilities also include the evaluation of reported nonconformity, necessary corrective actions and verifications, as required by Integrated Management System, in co-operation with the Master.

Issuing standing/night orders that complement the Safety Management System (SMS) in a clear and simple manner. Deck officers shall sign the Master’s standing/night orders to acknowledge that they have read, understood, and be held liable to adhere to the orders.

Being responsible for monitoring the consumption and supply of oil, lubes, engine stores and maintaining enough bunkers, water and other essential engine related stores and consumables and maintaining records accordingly.

Being responsible for all bunkering operations as per prescribed procedures and maintaining appropriate records including those required under MARPOL (including the Marine Fuel Sulphur Record Book and Oil Record Book).

Assisting the Company with the preparation of dry-docking specifications, and with the supervision of repairs and structural alterations.

Ensuring that all defects are rectified in a timely manner including following up with the relevant Technical Superintendent as may be necessary.

Ensuring that a root cause analysis is carried out on all defects so that effective action can be implemented to prevent recurrence.

The control of all engine and ship’s structure related plans and instruction manuals and ensuring all are kept up date, properly filed and readily available. Superseded plans and manuals should be discarded.

Being responsible for maintaining the engine room log and, together with the Master, prepare the Master’s log, paying particular attention to the end of month requirements.

Where appropriate, assigning the Duty Engineer to pump fresh water, bulk and oil and operate the required machinery for loading and discharging of same.

Where appropriate, maintain and record the quantity of oil, bulk, brine, oil based mud and water which is delivered to/received from offshore installations.

Ensuring all hull, machinery and other equipment surveys are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the classification society and/or flag State.

Allocate work duties to the other engineers and ensure all work is carried out in an efficient and workmanlike fashion.

The regular inspection of the machinery on-board. The Chief Engineer is to sign the Engine Room Logbook to show that the inspections have been undertaken.

The testing of all emergency stand-by machinery and recording such tests in the Engine Room Logbook.

Maintain the machinery spaces in a clean and safe condition.

Ensure all firefighting and monitoring equipment in the machinery spaces is maintained in good working order.

Ensuring that personnel are familiar with the operation of emergency equipment.

Operating anchor handling and towing winches as and when assigned by the Master. (Offshore)

Supervision and training of Engineer Cadets as and when assigned to the vessel.

The Chief Engineer is the Appointed Environmental Officer onboard the vessel.

They are to carry out any lawful command as requested by Master.

The Chief Engineer's duties also include liaison with client and other parties in their area of responsibility.

Ensuring that all Engine room Staff wear proper PPE at all times.
Required Qualifications - chief engineer certification, experience, medical fitness

Certificate of Competency as per STCW reg III/2

STCW endorsements

Valid Medical certificate

DP Maintenance Course (where applicable)

DP experience as per IMCA M 117 (where applicable)

Minimum 12 months of experience in rank and similar type of vessel..
Preferred Skills - technical expertise, problem solving, leadership
-
Experience on AHTS or other offshore support vessels, with exposure to dynamic positioning systems (where applicable), thruster systems, and cargo/mission-specific machinery preferred.

Training or certification in electrical systems, automation, hydraulics, or specialist machinery maintenance is advantageous.

Demonstrated ability to perform fault diagnosis, overhaul planning, and supervise major repairs or drydock projects in coordination with shoreside teams and contractors.

Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor engineering team members and maintain high morale during extended deployments.
Work Environment & Conditions - seafaring life, rotations, safety

Seagoing position with rotational deployments; assignments may include extended periods onboard with defined on/off rotation schedules.

Work in engine rooms, confined spaces, and machinery spaces; ability to operate safely around moving equipment, at heights, and during adverse weather conditions when required.

Must comply with medical fitness standards, vaccinations, and company pre-employment screening requirements.
