Job Description:
The Board Member will serve as a key strategic leader within the organization, bringing extensive expertise to guide and enhance governance practices, drive forward organizational objectives, and foster stakeholder engagement. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of fiscal oversight, risk management, and strategic planning within the context of our industry. Job Requirements:
- A minimum of 15 years of executive experience in a relevant sector, demonstrating progressive leadership roles and strategic oversight.
- Proven track record of serving on a board of directors or similar governing body, with deep understanding of fiduciary responsibilities and organizational governance frameworks.
- Expertise in risk management and regulatory compliance, with the ability to assess complex information and make informed decisions that balance risk and opportunity.
- Exceptional financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal accountability.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including community leaders, organizational staff, and external partners.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives, with a focus on measurable outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships and forge partnerships in pursuit of organizational goals.
- Ability to navigate and support organizational change management initiatives, fostering an inclusive culture that encourages innovation and adaptation.
- Commitment to upholding and promoting ethical standards and best practices within the organization.
- Experience serving in a governance capacity for non-profit or community-based organizations preferable, emphasizing community engagement and stakeholder inclusivity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and approval of the organization’s strategic vision and long-term goals, ensuring alignment with community needs and organizational capacities.
- Oversee financial stewardship of the organization, including the review and approval of budgets, financial reports, and audit findings, to ensure fiscal responsibility and integrity.
- Participate in setting organizational policies and governance standards that enhance transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making within the board's functions.
- Engage with executive leadership to review operational performance and organizational effectiveness, providing constructive feedback to foster improvement and innovation.
- Advocate for the organization within the community and among various stakeholders, representing the organization’s interests and ensuring public trust.
- Foster a culture of accountability and high ethical standards across the organization, championing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Lead board committees and task forces as necessary to address specific strategic initiatives, ensuring thorough and effective engagement with key issues.
- Stay informed on trends and developments relevant to the organization’s mission and industry, integrating insights into strategic discussion and decision-making.
- Support executive succession planning and talent development initiatives, contributing to a robust leadership pipeline.
- Conduct self-evaluation and participate in the evaluation of the Board’s performance, enhancing effectiveness and governance practice.
