Job Description:




Madison College is looking for a full-time Custodian.This is manual work associated directly with the performance of a variety of custodial tasks. Work at this level is differentiated from that of other custodian positions by the degree of effort required to perform duties and degree of independence under which this position performs these duties in that this position receives work from the custodial supervisor or custodial lead workers; does not lead the work of other custodians of the same level, and is not the only custodian worker assigned to a specific building

This is a full-time, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year position. This position will work at Health Education building from 6:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. Madison College offers a generous benefit program including health and dental benefits



Summary:


This position receives direction from the Engineering/Operations Manager or Facilities Custodial Supervisor and may receive additional direction from his/her respective custodial lead worker for non-routine, emergency tasks as necessary to provide services commensurate with this position. This position may also direct the work of and receive assistance from student help, temporary help or work study personnel



Essential Duties:


The following are duties typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned


1. Performs general routine cleaning duties within Madison College facilities to include but not limited to the following:


a) Hard floors - Sweep, mop, strip and wax;


b) Carpeted surfaces/rugs – Vacuum, shampoo and spot clean;


c) Clean and empty all waste and recycling receptacles;


d) Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms and fixtures;


e) Clean up spills and other messes as required;


f) Deep clean all floors, furniture and other surfaces as required;


g) Clean and spot clean windows/glass;


h) Dust, clean and polish furniture, desks, cabinets, woodwork, walls, exhaust grilles, and other fixtures



2. Performs general routine non-cleaning duties within the Madison College facilities to include, but not limited to the following:


a) Performs room set-ups and tear-downs for scheduled events;


b) Opens/closes building as required;


c) Restocks and maintains inventory levels of custodial supplies;


d) Performs shipping and receiving duties for campus materials;


e) Assists with snow removal and grounds work as required



3. Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values


4. Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules. Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


1. Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing


2. Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities


3. Knowledge of basic math


4. Knowledge of basic electricity


5. Knowledge of basic plumbing


6. Knowledge of proper use of hand and small power tools and custodial equipment, (vacuums, auto scrubbers, extractors, rotary floor cleaners, shop vacuums, and other miscellaneous equipment) associated with custodial tasks


7. Knowledge of basic safety procedures associated with custodial tasks



Qualifications:


1. HS Diploma, GED or equivalent


2. Six (6) months of work experience, directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position
