Admissions Specialist - Admitting Department

Fast-paced, high volume Admitting department is looking for top skilled Admissions Specialists. Is that you?

Work location: Texas Health Plano - 6200 W Parker Rd, Plano TX 75093

Work hours: Part Time; Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 9:00a-3:00pm. Must be available for 1 week of system training in Arlington, TX. Onboarding training is 4 weeks.

Here’s What You Need

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required.

  • Associate's Degree Preferred

  • Other - CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Req

  • 1 year of related experience Required.

  • 6 Months Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate computer skills Preferred or

  • 1 Year Healthcare, referral processing, scheduling Preferred

  • Helpful: Registration experience

  • Highly: Customer service experience.

  • CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate Upon Hire Preferred and

  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training 90 Days Req

  • Requires good written, oral, and telephone communication skills.

  • Requires knowledge of general office equipment, PCs and associated software packages.

  • Ability to type 35 WPM corrected for errors preferred.

  • General knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and exceptional customer service skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with all levels of people; bi-lingual a plus.

  • Ability to type, spell, write, print legibly documentation and keyboarding skills.

What You Will Do

  • Accurately gathers complete financial and demographic information to ensure medical records/billing process flows efficiently.

  • Obtains and/or updates verification of benefits and/or pre-certification for applicable tests and/or procedures.

  • Prepares, presents, and thoroughly explains applicable legal, ethical, and compliance documents; ensures proper consents are signed by the appropriate parties. Maintains documentation of the same.

  • Maximizes reimbursement for services rendered by appropriately identifying insurance carrier, benefits, etc. Prevents denials by ensuring timely notification of admission to insurance carriers.

  • Assists patients in understanding financial obligations; collects co-payments, self-pay deposits, and patient balances to reduce Accounts Receivable.

  • Stays abreast of and complies with applicable regulations, entity and/or system policies and procedures. Maintains customer service and/or productivity guidelines set forth by applicable leadership.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • This position exemplifies exceptional customer service skills, personal warmth and patient engagement. Maintains professionalism, is discrete and offers solutions in anticipation of each patients needs. Greets every person verbally, with eye contact, and body language that is welcoming and friendly. Gives total attention to patient and listens to what the patient is saying and is conscious of non-verbal clues to the patients condition and status.

  • Seeks to personally provide resolution to the issue or need, and personally hands off to a suitable level staff member. Appropriately judges communication with the patient base on the situation and patient needs. Communicates appropriately with all stakeholders.

  • Obtains and verifies patient demographic information. collection complete financial information to include payor name, identification number, group, subscriber, pre-certification and complete mailing address information for claim submission. Positively identifies all patients prior to registration or revision.

  • Explains consent information, obtain consent signature and witnesses with no omissions. Distributes literature to patient to include education and regulatory information related to advanced, patient rights, practice and other according to current procedure guidelines and requirements.

  • Maintains certifications as required according to position assigned, including State of Texas Birth Registrar. Recognizes and communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
    Minimizes THR's financial risk by identifying known patient out of pocket expenses at the point of service. Determines financial obligations based on the current policy, including collection of insurance or patient co-payment, self pay deposits and any patient existing balance.

  • Maintains and applies knowledge of the current financial policy and deploys practices used within the department, as well as Central Business Operations to resolve patient accounts. Collects, secures and scans documentation to obtain insurance referral authorizations and pre-certification for ancillary services, diagnostic testing and imaging.

This includes reporting to work on time, prepared, as scheduled and remaining at work for the entire scheduled shift for patient service needs and work production workflow. This expectation is also in place for those occasions of inclement weather.

  • Actively participates in hospital initiatives or committees as appropriate. Attends 80% of department staff meetings and town halls. Adheres to system, site and department policies. Completes mandatory training & Employee health requirements before or by the established date.

  • Maintains certifications as required according to position assigned, including State of Texas Birth Registrar. Recognizes and communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
