A vacancy exists in the Bureau of Clinical Services/Division of School & Adolescent Health, Department of Health and Human Services.

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, conducts hearing and vision screening tests in schools and pre-school centers.

  • Administers audiometric and vision screening tests, using standardized testing equipment and techniques.

  • Interprets results to school nurses and other appropriate professional personnel.

  • Contacts schools and pre-school centers and schedules testing dates.

  • Controls the orderly flow of participants to and from the testing area.

  • Refers for follow-up care those with suspected vision or hearing impairments.

  • Documents results of screening in both the school records and the Health Department's records (including electronic medical record).

  • Compiles statistics of the hearing and vision testing program.

Examples of Other Duties
Trains and assists new employees and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Completion of two years of college
at least one year of experience providing services to children and families in a health, education, or social services setting.

(Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. Additional education in social sciences, education, health, or nursing may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.)

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid non-commercial, class C Maryland Driver's license or an equivalent is required at the time of appointment.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Proof of Degree Equivalency

Conditions of Employment

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The duties of this classification entail walking and some lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight. Positions are required to travel to various testing sites located throughout the County.

Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education, and fingerprint check.

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.

Employees may elect basic term life insurance for themselves equal to one time the employee's annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000. Employees contribute a portion of the premium through monthly payroll deductions. The County also offers an Additional/Employee paid Life Insurance plan with coverage up to $100,000.

Full-time civilian employees must join the Employment Retirement System (ERS) within sixty days of hire as a condition of employment. Part-time civilian employees can waive enrollment for up to sixty days, then may join or waive permanently. Newly hired employees at least 55 years of age may opt not to join the ERS.
