Occupational Summary


Work closely with critical business products and systems that are essential to the daily operations of Duke University Student Affairs. Assist in the continuous availability, functionality, security, integrity, and documentation of division services. Collaborate in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of production tools to support work processes. Work closely with department leaders, Student Affairs-IT team members, and project stakeholders.


Work Performed


Analysis and Improvement Initiatives – 50% Effort



  • Provide guidance and direction to Student Affairs departments regarding developing and executing IT system improvement initiatives.

  • Assist departments with analyzing business requirements and conceptualizing process creation and improvement.

  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies to enhance service delivery throughout the division. Maintain awareness of the evolution of existing services and systems in use.

  • Attend meetings as a subject matter expert and participate in discussions to understand departmental business needs and recommend process improvements.

  • Translate functional requirements into action items, drive customer acceptance with process change management for effective planning and release.

  • Drive collaboration with engineering, assessment, program management, and communication teams.

  • Assess department experiences to drive greater product adoption and user engagement - translating customer pain points into improved user experiences.

  • Pursue the expanded usage of centrally available IT services and software to the benefit of Student Affairs departments.


Work with Campus Partners – 20% Effort



  • Serve as liaison to various groups within Duke in pursuit of supporting business outcomes. Work with campus partners (Office of Information Technology, Identity Management Systems, Student Information Services & Systems, Duke Registrar, Duke Health Technology Services) for system modifications, enhancements, and implementations.

  • Regularly collaborate with campus stakeholders to minimize data loss risk and proactively adhere to university and health security office policies and compliances.

  • Work with the Office of Audit, Risk, & Compliance (OARC) to provide insight regarding the audit, risk, compliance, & privacy initiatives for Student Affairs services.

  • Collaborate with the IT Security Office regarding security concerns with Student Affairs services. Stay up to date on security best practices.


Work with Student Affairs IT and Assessment – 30% Effort



  • Serve as a liaison with the Office of Information Technology, department service owner, external vendors in the standing up of externally hosted systems.

  • Serve as a liaison with the Office of Information Technology, department service owner, external vendors in the standing up of onsite virtual servers.

  • Assist with the initiation of new IT project requests and working with IT Security Office in providing information to complete vendor risk assessments.

  • Assist in privilege access management reviews of division systems.

  • Work with Student Affairs-IT and the Office of Information Technology in the scheduled retirement of servers.

  • Work closely with Student Affairs-IT team members and campus partners regarding changes to and the availability of data feeds to hosted systems.

  • Maintain awareness and assist in the transition of data to the Student Affairs Data Warehouse.

  • Work closely with the Assessment Director in the handling of data request submissions.

  • Partner with senior business analyst to automate manual processes and move projects forward.

  • Assist the IT Director in post-project assessment initiatives.

  • Assist IT Director with single sign on implementations.

  • Other work responsibilities as required.





Required Qualifications at this Level






Education/Training:






Work requires a Bachelor's degree.













Experience:






3 years combined business analyst/systems analyst, work with software to ensure it meets expected qualifications, or user support/training experience. Experience in a decentralized support area while collaborating with technical and non-technical staff to complete tasks and projects.


OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.













Skills:






Business intelligence tools: Tableau (preferred), PowerBI or other data visualization and reporting software is desired.
