The Office of Special Programs (OSP) within the division of Student Affairs (SA) at The City University of New York (CUNY) is responsible for the stewardship of key CUNY-wide programs that increase, encourage, and support the inclusion and educational success of low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented student groups in higher education.
The Office of Special Programs is seeking a Student Success Specialist to expand its supplemental services to promote academic momentum, persistence, and increase graduation rates. Reporting to the University Dean of Special Programs, or their designee, the Student Success Specialist will design and establish new services and update current practices to help achieve these objectives. OSP’s mission is to optimize student success in core and major courses to achieve timely graduation. Its goal is to strengthen the efficiency of tutorial services, and increase its use in all programs. This role will work with campus-level academic support coordinators to establish common practices that will be uniform throughout the various programs. In addition, the Student Success Specialist will manage the online tutoring platform for students. They will oversee and manage trainings, collect data, and analyze and asses the efficiency of program services.
In addition to the job summary above and the CUNY Title Overview information below, other key duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
Provide support and guidance in the implementation of new academic support services, including the expansion of the department’s online tutoring platform.
Monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of academic support services within all units of OSP.
Research and compile student academic support materials, and various forms of learning material to disseminate to the tutorial services of the OSP entities.
Coordinate with CUNY campus faculty and staff to monitor student performance and academic momentum by compiling and analyzing data of tutorial and supplemental services.
Assist with the development and implementation of policies to support OSP programs in reaching outlined benchmarks regarding retention, persistence, and graduation.
Participate in planning and executing events, projects, initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
Assist with the branding of the office’s various components, including designing marketing/promotional material such as brochures, flyers, etc. for events and program recruitment.
Maintain and update the OSP website, manage the social media platforms, send weekly listserv updates, plus manage office communication sent via Blackboard platform.
Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned tutors.
NOTES: 1) Until further notice, this position is eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.
2) Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.
Advanced degree in a directly related discipline.
Experience developing and coordinating student support enrichment and tutoring services, activities, and communications in an academic institution.
Strong presentation, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to work and interact effectively, collaboratively, and cooperatively with a diverse community of learners, students, faculty and staff.
Detail orientation and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Familiarity with working with university web editing platforms.
Student focused, proactive and collaborative work style with strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, researchers, and external partners.
Dependable with effective organizational and follow-through skills to coordinate work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple assignments and priorities, and meet deadlines, plus ability to thrive in a demanding and multi-faceted office.
Computer proficiency using research, academic, administrative, and financial systems, databases, and programs, plus Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator programs, and remote/virtual meeting and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides educational development activities supporting a targeted academic program.
Assists in developing and preparing program offerings, curricula, guidelines, and related communications
Promotes program and advises students and College stakeholders on services, policies, and procedures
Advises faculty, counselors, tutors, administrators and others on program goals, activities, and best practices
Provides student services such as workshops, seminars, and advising sessions
Coordinates efforts of faculty, staff, and other service providers to monitor and assess utilization, student progress, and program effectiveness
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $52,267 - $79,188, commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022
City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.
An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the Emblem Health website.
