Catastrophe R&D Senior Specialist, North America - Acrisure Re

Position Summary:

The primary responsibilities of the Catastrophe R&D senior specialist include building an R&D roadmap for catastrophe modeling group, executing R&D plans to deliver innovative catastrophe risk management tools, automating workflows to improve team performance, and modernizing product offerings to achieve best client experience.

This position can be based in North Carolina, Toronto, or New York.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Working closely with analytical group, broking team and clients to identify business needs for products and tools, and design/execute development plans
  • Identifying workflow areas that can be automated and developing tools that can improve group efficiency
  • Being a driving force to evaluate new technologies and encourage adoption as appropriate
  • Contributing to business development by introducing innovative tools that can differentiate us in the market

Education and/or Experience:
  • Master’s or higher degree, preferably with a STEM and/or actuarial major
  • 15+ years of research and development experience in catastrophe modeling field
  • 15+ years of hands-on experience with RMS and/or AIR models, with deep understanding of the model database structures
  • Excellent programming skills and high proficiency with Python/C++
  • 10+ years of experience of developing both front-end and back-end of enterprise softwares
  • Very strong knowledge with geospatial platforms, e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS
  • Deep understanding of the mathematic aspects of catastrophe models and strong ability to develop portfolio optimization tools
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks under time and resource constraints
  • Strong interpersonal skills
