General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS\' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Field Service Engineer to join our Electromagnetic Systems group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Under general direction this position is responsible for providing off-site technical and operational analysis and support in the design, development, installation and maintenance of equipment. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues and independently determines and develops technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems or issues and recommends actions to customers. Conducts technical analysis of product modifications and enhancements in accordance with customer specifications and implementations. Provides guidance and training to customers regarding equipment. May function in an advisory or leadership role and provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff.

DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Responsible for planning the schedule and managing assigned accounts to include installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and performing preventive maintenance on products.
  • Ensures installation planning phase meets customer requirements.
  • Configures equipment by loading software and testing the operation, making any modifications as needed.
  • Provides onsite installation and configuration support for customers including SAT (Site Acceptance Test) and Commissioning.
  • Ensures system is operating within expected parameters.
  • Assesses product needs in accordance with customer specifications and recommends actions to customer for product solution.
  • Analyzes equipment failures to independently determine cause and recommend corrective action. Recommends design changes to improve equipment efficiency and/or reduce cost of operation.
  • Writes and reviews trouble, failure and casualty reports, test documentation, and procedures in accordance with product and customer specifications.
  • Trains customers on basic functionality of system, operation, maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • Provides off-site and 24-hour phone support for customers.
  • May function in an advisory or leadership role and provide direction to less experienced professional staff.
  • Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to maintain a productive and safe work environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of piping and pressure vessel mechanics and requirements. Able to disassemble and reassemble piping and general mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems, including control software. Able to diagnose and repair general electrical/instrumentation/controls problems.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures, including mechanical, electrical, and analytical systems and tools.
  • Strict attention to safety requirements for high-temperature, flammable feedstocks.
  • Ability to interact with engineering and programmatic staff and other test personnel to brainstorm issues as they arise and to participate in IR&D
  • Willing and able to travel to various sites around the world for typically 1-2 weeks each trip and potentially (though rarely) up to 3-4 weeks. Much of the travel may be by himself/herself.
  • Must be reasonably comfortable with foreign cultures and locations.
  • Able to support occasional marketing trips with SD and/or PMO.
  • Able to work with customers through phone calls and e-mails to resolve technical issues at customer sites. These exchanges may take place at odd hours due to significant time zone differences.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelor\'s or master\'s degree in engineering or related field along with five or more years progressive experience in engineering with a bachelor\'s degree and three or more years experience with a master\'s degree. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate a complete understanding of engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
  • Must have leadership skills including organizing, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating work assignments to meet project milestones or established completion dates.
  • Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new processes.
  • Must be customer focused and possess: (1) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems;(2) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings;(3) excellent interpersonal skills to guide employees and interface with customers;(4) the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information;(5) the ability to represent the company as a knowledgeable resource on external projects ; and(6) excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel, both domestic and foreign, as required.
