An ROI Compliance Associate works under the leadership of a senior professional to review internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure that such controls conform to regulations. An ROI Compliance Associate will conduct internal audits of the ROI functions and processes and/or partner with compliance specialists when performing duties.

  • The ROI Compliance Associate helps the company ensure that employees abide by regulatory guidelines, top management directives, and human resources policies when performing their tasks.
  • The ROI Compliance Associate will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the Compliance Team concerning Health Information Management (HIM) and Release of Information (ROI) and will be available as a point of contact for ROI employees in the field to guide the analysis of data to help facilitate decisions and actions surrounding the release of Protected Health Information (PHI) to third parties while following strict confidentiality rules to protect clients’ and patients’ sensitive information.
  • As an SME, the ROI Compliance Associate will answer questions regarding the Patient Authorization to Disclose, Release and/or Obtain Protected Health Information Form.
  • The ROI Compliance Associate will perform audits of internal administration against plan, policy, service level agreements, and any regulatory requirements to ensure that employees are conforming to industry practices and professional standards in activities in which they engage, including HIPAA and all other state and federal regulations.
  • ROI Compliance Associates provide guidance and technical support for the implementation of ROI compliance programs and practices and will work with business units to establish procedures and ensure compliance.
  • This position will investigate and resolve compliance-related issues, implement systems and procedures for tracking compliance guidelines, and maintain logs, indexes, files, computer databases, and other records pertaining to compliance and risk.
  • ROI Compliance Associates will participate in compliance assessments, review regulatory agency or industry reports, and participate in formulating responses and corrective actions. ROI Compliance Associates will also be asked to disseminate information about new and ongoing compliance requirements, challenges, and solutions, prepare training materials, and participate in training and instructional activities.

  • Creditable knowledge and experience in the field of medical records that includes the preparation, maintenance, and management of health records and health information systems demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology, medical records procedures, medical coding, or medical, administrative, and legal requirements of health care delivery systems.

  • Keeps other departments abreast of requirements by researching regulatory information.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
Manages Risk – Basic Experience * Assesses and effectively manages all the risks associated with their business objectives and activities to ensure activities are in alignment with VRC’s risk management framework.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Evaluates compliance with legal, ethical, regulatory guidelines, and accrediting bodies.
Job Specific Competencies

Business Ethics – Basic Experience * Strong knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations.
  • Knowledge of practices, behaviors, applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing proper business conduct: ability to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations. Information Capture – Basic Experience
  • Knowledge of full MS Office Suite and understanding of research applications.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educations workshops, reviewing professional publications.
  • Embodies robust ethical standards with specific emphasis on information governance and principles.
  • Organizes internal systems becomes involved in new company-wide initiatives, solves problems, and contributes ideas.
Education and Training

Roles at this level require a college degree with 1 year of professional experience and/or successful completion of a formal development program. A bachelor’s degree with a major field of study in health information management is preferred. Experience in technical writing is a plus. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
