This Laboratory Specialist position will be required to oversee breeding colonies of mice for a research lab. Will maintain mouse colonies and help design experiments and procure animals.

Responsibilities will also include the ability to maintain unique knockout and transgenic mice, design and execute backcrosses, and verify genetics by genotyping tail biopsies via PCR and sequencing. In addition, this person will be responsible for performing basic mouse surgical techniques, as well as training incoming personnel in these surgical techniques where appropriate. This person will also be responsible for performing laboratory techniques such as immunocytochemistry, western blots, PCR, cell culture, and DNA/RNA extraction.

Qualifications Experience in basic lab techniques and molecular techniques, such as PCR, Southern blot, Western blot, cell culture, and ELISA, is strongly preferred. Skill/experience with rodent handling is required. Skill/experience with surgical procedures is preferred but not necessary. Must have prior experience working with lab mice and have an adequate background in genetics and microbiology. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.
