Job Purpose
BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The RSAF EWC Advisor SME will provide the RSAF with the support and knowledge transfer such that they acquire the skills necessary to independently and indigenously provide Electronic Warfare Operational Support (EWOS) to the RSAF. Primarily responsible for advising the RSAF EWC Commander on both Typhoon and Tornado EWOS, secondary roles include the provision general EW/Air warfare reviews/assessments and advice/support to the RSAF EW Directorate regarding future EW strategy and capability developments.
To provide a high level of knowledge and experience-based advice/assessment in EME Electronic Warfare operations, particularly in the context of the preparation for and execution of Air operations (KSA and Allied). Familiarity with RSAF platform capabilities and operational doctrine is essential. A sound appreciation of the roles and of the other contracted specialist EWOS subject matter experts operating within the EWC (Leonardo and MASS) is required.
To operate across the many areas of the RSAF, providing both military and industry based advice. Working under the direction of the RSAF EWC Commander, the primary function will be to assist the RSAF to develop, operate and maintain the RSAF EWC EWOS capabilities, coach and develop EWC Section leaders/senior managers in the fundamentals of EWOS (particularly Typhoon) and support continual development through on-the-job training, ensuring consistency in the performance of the contracted European Expat Data Analysis, Countermeasure, programming and test EWOS Subject Matter Experts. The role will help define and shape the future of RSAF EWOS capability in KSA.
To provide the bridge between RSAF EWD/C and BAE Systems to assure shared understanding and that products meet RSAF Operational requirements and expectations.

Job Accountabilities
- Assist the RSAF to establish, operate and maintain EWOS capabilities (Typhoon, Tornado and other RSAF Platforms), providing leadership and direction to the specialist subject matter experts team supplied by BAE Systems, Leonardo, QinetiQ and MASS.
- Work under the direction of the RSAF EWC Commander
- Work with the Director of the EW Directorate to advise on EW Strategy and future capability developments.
- Ensure that the LTEWP and TEWS EW SME personnel deliver customer satisfaction.
- Coach and develop EWC Section leaders and senior managers in the fundamentals of EWOS for all supported RSAF platforms.
- Ensure currency and consistency of processes and OJT application by the EW EE SMEs.
- Advise BAE Systems Saudi Arabia of potential opportunities or issues with the RSAF EWOS capability to ensure that the business provides an exemplary service to RSAF
- Provide feedback/direction to BAES (KSA/UK) regarding RSAF EW operational doctrine and requirements/expectations to ensure understanding.
- Advising the EWC Commander on current and future EW capability development and liaising with the RSAF through the EW Operations on current and future requirements (Typhoon and others).
- Advising on current and future threat assessments and capability audits.
- Attend LTEWP and TEWS Project and design reviews.
- Undertake reviews of industry provided documentation to inform RSAF feedback/comments.
- Assist in the planning Typhoon trials and exercises.
- Assist in the RSAF EWC/End User engagement process (EWOS product feedback from end-users).
Essential
- Recent experience of Air Operations either as a aircrew or recent experience of leading and managing the tasking, creation and verification of Mission Data, particularly Typhoon.
- Experience in Air Operations in an EW environment, preferably within the UK Air Warfare Centre
- Qualified Electronic Warfare expert with experience within an operational EW Environment (Joint and Air). Graduate of either the UK RAF Aero systems course, or of a recognized advanced Electronic Warfare Officer’s course.
- Staff Qualified through either UK Staff College or through relevant staff appointments within UK MOD, or one of its major Commands (PJHQ, Air Command, Group Headquarters, Air & Space Warfare Centre).
- Developed technical awareness of EME/EW developments and the operational application of EWOS and Platform EW capabilities (current/emerging).
- Should have held a Command appointment equivalent to Squadron Leader or Wing Commander rank.
- Experienced in planning trials in an EW environment.
- Qualified Instructor (Air or Ground).
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Ability to identify issues and opportunities and develop potential solutions for the benefit of both the RSAF and BAE Systems.
- An ability to think strategically & translate strategy and direction into clear operational and achievable objectives with tangible deliverables (RSAF and BAES).
- To be able to interpret messaging from RSAF/BAES and translate into what this means to EWOS workload (current and future).
- A good awareness and understanding of the broader EME operating challenges, emerging EW technologies and the potential application to operations to inform future strategy/direction.
- Good understanding of the RSAF operating environment, doctrine and local operations, including ongoing military operation and how this translates into current and future capabilities (Typhoon and other).
- Good understanding of the respective RSAF/KSA Joint organisations, culturally, politically, and commercially.
- Self-motivated and capable of independently operating under limited company supervision
- In order to lead the EW SME team within the RSAF EWC and fulfil the role of Senior EW Advisor to RSAF EWC Commander the job holder will be require: –
- Adaptability and abilities to project ahead and propose adjustment of capability/product plans/route maps for ongoing and future EWOS capabilities and TEPIDOILI based lines of development.
- Proven track record of directing and influencing individuals to achieve/exceed performance targets.
- A strong RSAF Operational effects-based focus to enable the timely delivery of effective solutions and ensure RSAF (EWD/EWC/End User) issues are resolved in a timely and effective manner to enhance the reputation of BAE Systems.
- Experience based professional and personal leadership skills to effectively direct and influence both industry and RSAF. The early development of a credible presence with both the RSAF and EE SME manpower is essential.
- Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills to ensure a common purpose and interface effectively with the RSAF, industry and UK MOD at all levels.
- Patience and a determination to see things through to completion in what can be a frustrating and difficult environment (RSAF and Business).
- A sound appreciation of cultural diversities and local business practices.
- Needs to be able to take the initiative to scope and resolve operational, business and cultural challenges and provide the RSAF EWC Commander and business leadership with accurate, timely and balanced advice.
- The job holder will be the primary facilitator in aligning RSAF thinking and aspirations to what is possible as part of the platform EW and EWOS capabilities.
- Ensuring RSAF training and process requirements are understood by Industry develop and supply chain.
- Planning and Project Management skills are critical aspects of this role to assist the timely and accurate delivery of industry commitments.
- Ability to translate RSAF operational requirements into industry engineering solutions to ensure the development and delivery of effective operational solutions.
- Application and compliance with Lifecycle Management, and the supporting of appropriate levels of design and phase review in support of the campaign lifecycle stages, and against specific areas of immaturity of engineering solutions.
- The job holder will be required to make own judgements as to where product weaknesses will present financial or reputational risk exposure to the business, thus supporting the BAES Systems organisation to make decisions based on an informed position.
- As the senior Industry representative embedded within the RSAF EWC, the role is the face of BAE Systems and its partners within the EWC and as such has high industry reputational implications.
- Failure to meet RSAF expectations and the timely and accurate provision of EWOS capabilities could result in the loss of new business to competing companies, or loss of business in total.
- Success in this role will open the door for BAE Systems and its partners to gain further work within RSAF EW Operational Support and, through making the RSAF Typhoon and Tornado EWOS capabilities a operationally effective, will directly influence the businesses ability to gain further business within KSA
- Realisation of this RSAF indigenous EWOS capabilities will directly support opportunities for similar export business opportunities.
- Protection of BAE Systems reputation and standing, by ensuring the company delivers against its commitments.
- Royal Saudi Airforce, BAE Systems Air (Saudi Arabia and UK).
- Leadership and standing with the supply chain partners operating as part of this EWOS service.
- Longer term business winning opportunities for developing and sustaining the EWOS service, and through demonstrated success in this venture the opportunity to broaden into an overarching Operational Mission Support service providing an end to end Air Service, delivering an output based service in conjunction with Saudi Industry that delivers “a number of trained pilots” to the flight line with relevant mission and EW planning and de-brief capability both in the synthetic and real world..
- Equivalent Air Service EWOS business opportunities into other Typhoon and future capability campaign opportunities, each proportional to the KSA long term business opportunities
- Ability to work well with RSAF, BAESSA Saudi Nationals and UK teams – proactive supportive engagement, trust, respect and cultural understanding.
- Ability to lead, manage, motivate and direct the SMEs within the RSAF EWC
- Ability to develop an excellent working relationship with the RSAF EWC Commander, HQ RSAF staff and RSAF aircrew.
