Job Description

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Traffic Engineer to join our team!

In this role you will get to manage and optimize traffic flow around the Airport Development Project, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant traffic operations throughout the construction phase and beyond. This role requires expertise in traffic engineering, road design, safety regulations, and traffic management systems, with a focus on maintaining smooth operations in a complex and high-traffic environment.

Traffic Planning & Design

  • Develop and implement traffic management plans to support construction activities, ensuring safe and efficient movement of vehicles, including construction equipment and materials.
  • Design and analyze traffic flow systems, including intersections, access roads, and parking facilities, to optimize efficiency and minimize congestion.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate traffic solutions with overall site designs, including roadways, pedestrian pathways, and public transport access.

Traffic Flow Management

  • Monitor and manage traffic flow during the construction phase to minimize disruptions to airport operations and surrounding areas.
  • Develop temporary traffic control plans and detour routes for construction activities to ensure the safety of both construction personnel and the public.
  • Implement innovative solutions to manage traffic congestion, especially during peak hours or special events.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all traffic management plans comply with local, national, and international traffic regulations and safety standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to traffic safety and develop strategies to address potential hazards.
  • Work closely with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure the proper coordination of traffic control measures, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding communities.

Construction Traffic Management

  • Supervise the safe and effective management of construction-related traffic, including heavy equipment, material deliveries, and worker transportation.
  • Coordinate with the construction management team to ensure that the logistics of construction traffic align with the overall project schedule.
  • Ensure that construction site access roads, temporary roadways, and transportation routes are well maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Traffic Simulation & Modeling

  • Utilize advanced traffic simulation software to model traffic patterns and predict the impact of construction activities on the surrounding road network.
  • Analyze traffic flow data and make recommendations for improvements based on simulation results and real-time traffic conditions.
  • Use data-driven insights to develop and adjust traffic management strategies in response to evolving project needs.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

  • Prepare and present traffic engineering reports to senior management, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders, including updates on traffic management strategies and project progress.
  • Communicate effectively with local authorities, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure alignment on traffic-related issues.
  • Participate in public meetings and community consultations to address traffic concerns raised by the public or local businesses.

Cost Control & Budget Management

  • Develop and manage the budget for traffic engineering and management activities, ensuring that the project stays within budget while meeting traffic requirements.
  • Track and report on traffic engineering costs, including traffic control measures, materials, and labor, ensuring cost efficiency throughout the project.

Continuous Improvement & Best Practices

  • Stay current with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in traffic engineering and transportation planning.
  • Implement innovative solutions to enhance traffic management processes, including automation and smart traffic systems.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize traffic flow, reduce delays, and improve safety both during construction and for the long-term operation of the airport.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Traffic Engineering or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
    • Proven experience in managing traffic flow and safety for large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably in the aviation or transportation sector.
    • Experience with traffic simulation software (e.g., VISSIM, Synchro, HCS) and familiarity with traffic management systems.

  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles, including road design, traffic flow analysis, and traffic control measures.
    • Experience with traffic safety regulations and compliance with local, national, and international standards.
    • Proficiency in traffic modeling software and other engineering tools.
    • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex traffic data and make data-driven decisions.
    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring

  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar certification in traffic/transportation engineering.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in airport or large-scale transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Technological Expertise: Familiarity with intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and smart traffic technologies.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience managing teams and coordinating cross-functional efforts.
