Senior Network Engineer

Job Description:

The Senior Network Engineer is a critical mid-career role within our dynamic IT infrastructure team, responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise-level networking solutions. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of layered network architecture and the ability to troubleshoot intricate network issues efficiently. The successful candidate will leverage advanced technical expertise in both wired and wireless networks, as well as cloud connectivity, to drive strategic initiatives that enhance network performance, ensure secure communications, and support organizational growth objectives. Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and the mentoring of junior network staff are key aspects of this role, alongside regularly evaluating industry trends and emerging technologies to refine and innovate network strategies. A proactive approach to risk assessment and incident management is expected, ensuring high availability and reliability of network services.

Job Requirements:

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in network engineering and management, with a strong focus on enterprise networking solutions.
• Extensive experience with routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and switching technologies including VLANs and Spanning Tree Protocols.
• Proven track record in designing and implementing robust network infrastructure solutions, including firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs.
• Deep understanding of performance tuning, fault tolerance, and high availability configurations.
• Expertise in network security practices and protocols, including knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, and secure access methodologies.
• Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools, including SNMP, NetFlow, and packet analysis.
• Knowledge of cloud networking concepts across major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), including hybrid cloud architectures.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work under pressure and resolve complex issues effectively.
• Strong project management skills with a history of delivering successful IT projects on time and within budget.
• Experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Proficient in scripting and automation for network configuration and monitoring (Python, Bash, etc.).
• Understanding of ITIL practices and methodologies, with a focus on continuous service improvement.
• Experienced in Cisco ACI or similar technology
• Experienced in managing networks
• Certified CCNP or similar advance certification
• Ability to understand basic scripts

Job Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, and maintain scalable and secure network infrastructure solutions that meet the organization's evolving technology needs.
• Conduct thorough performance assessments and optimizations of existing network configurations to enhance throughput and reduce latency.
• Collaborate with security teams to implement and enforce network security policies, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex network issues, providing timely resolutions to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
• Mentor and train junior network engineers to build their technical capabilities and ensure team resilience.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools that align with strategic goals and improve overall network reliability.
• Develop network diagrams and documentation to maintain clear visibility and understanding of network architecture across the organization.
• Engage in capacity planning and scalability assessments to support the organization’s future growth and expansion plans.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for network-related incidents and escalations, liaising with other IT and business units as needed.
• Participate in the development of disaster recovery and business continuity plans related to network operations.

Required Skills:

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking principles and their application in complex environments.
• Proficiency in configuring and managing routers and switches from leading vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, or Arista.
• Hands-on experience with network virtualization technologies (e.g., SDN, NFV) and their implications on enterprise infrastructure.
• Solid foundation in IPv6 addressing and implementation strategies.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrable problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the capability of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in an Agile team structure is a plus.
