The Viral Vector Laboratory within the Smart-Health Initiative at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is seeking applications for Research Technician position. This is an innovative lab at KAUST which aims to develop gene delivery viral vectors by teaming up with diverse researchers at the university to support their research programs. Applicants are required to have prior experience with molecular and cell biological methods. The applicant will work to advance our knowledge of viral vector production in versatility, stability and efficacy with modern techniques from plasmids construction to cell culture and viral vector production.

Specific tasks involve working in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory on cell culture, purification and quantification of nucleic acids and viral vectors. The successful candidate would be expected to independently execute laboratory tasks, help troubleshoot issues that arise, analyze results, and present findings to the team.

Essential Job Duties

• Organize work and equipment for best efficiency
• Set up and run analytical instruments including system suitability, calibration, and quality control.
• Monitor performance of analytical instruments
• Prepare samples for analysis
• Process data, accept and certify results
• Perform basic instrument troubleshooting and repairs
• Maintain compliance documentation
• Participate in housekeeping and other general tasks
• Observe and promote safety practices
• Be a team player and maintain a positive attitude towards work.
• Clear communication
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting

Qualifications

• B.A./B.S. or MS in biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering or related scientific field
• Experience with common molecular and cellular biology techniques such as nucleic acid purification, gel electrophoresis, quantitative PCR, aseptic technique, and mammalian and microbial cell culture, along with the willingness to learn additional methods or platforms as needed
• Excellent organization and data management skills are required.
