Job Description Summary

The Regional Customer Application Engineer (RCAE) is the primary technical interface with new unit customers during the pre-ITO (pre-Inquiry-To-Order) phase in MENA (i.e. prior to a firm proposal). She/He is responsible for influencing and positioning GE with Customers and for defining the best technical solution and strategy for firm proposals. Furthermore, the RCAE is expected to interface at varying levels during the ITR stage as required to assure the GE solution remains aligned to customer expectations. Given the technical/commercial hybrid nature of the role, the RCAE position provides those with a strong background in gas turbine and/or thermal power generation an opportunity to grow in the project development and commercial spaces; likewise, those with a strong commercial and project development background will have an opportunity to increase their depth in gas turbine and combined cycle technology.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Own pre-ITO (pre-Inquiry-To-Order) technical deliverables for all typical opportunities directly from assigned account managers. For complex opportunities, may own with support from broader applications team or may support another more experienced AE team member leading.
  • Gather from customers and other sources information about each opportunity and the Customer’s development plan, strategy, and evaluation method.
  • Inform Customers about GE Vernova technology and solutions through in-person and online presentations.
  • Use thermodynamic modeling software to model Simple Cycle (SC), Combined Cycle (CC), and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plants.
  • When appropriate, work cross-functionally to conduct configuration optimization.
  • Conduct economic life-cycle evaluation analysis of GE Vernova and competitor solutions for projects prior to formal Request For Proposal (RFP).
  • Work closely with New Unit Sales and within the broader Applications Engineering (PPE) and Product Line Management teams to ensure optimum GE Vernova competitiveness.
  • Proactively assess product fit and define an influencing strategy to best position GE Vernova prior to firm bid. Products include Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine, Aeroderivative Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Generator, and Heat Recovery Steam Generator.
  • Work closely with New Unit Sales to establish a pre-ITO level of technical information flow to develop gas power projects.
  • Respond to Customer requests for technical information prior to RFP, including providing transmission interconnect data and emissions data for permitting.
  • Define and communicate to the ITO proposal team the project background, optimum configuration, necessary approvals obtained, and bid strategy.
  • Gather competitive data and support post win and post mortem analyses.
  • Analyze and report back to the business regional Customer needs and trends.
  • Provide Customer feedback to internal functions (i.e. Solution Architect, Value Engineering) regarding the preferred configuration designs and strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Proven years of experience in the field of sales, commercial operation, or engineering with a strong technical and/or commercial background in power generation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly (up to ~20%) over a wide region for Customer meetings or events.
  • KSA Nationals preferred

Desired Characteristics

  • Good English written and verbal communication skills, one-on-one and with large audiences.
  • Experience in sales, commercial operation, or engineering with a strong technical and/or commercial background in thermal power generation.
  • Advanced Engineering degree.
  • Extensive technical and commercial experience within power generation industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GE Vernova Gas Power products and technology (Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine and/or aeroderivative, Steam Turbine, CC, CHP), processes and organizational structure.
  • Strong external focus, with ability to assess impact of price and performance decisions on Customers, market, & investors.
  • Proven analytical skill set and strategic mindset.
  • Knowledgeable of power generation industry trends and competition.
  • Strong grasp of power plant thermodynamics and modeling.
  • Project economic modeling knowledge and experience.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work in a regional and global team.
  • Enthusiastically practices Lean.
