Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Principal Construction Environmental Specialist to join our team! In this role you will get to lead and manage environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives for RC Construction, Engineering, PMD and Urban Planning projects. This role involves ensuring adherence to environmental regulations, minimizing environmental impact, and promoting sustainable construction environmental best practices. The specialist will also drive innovation in environmental management and sustainability within all RC Sectors.
Reports directly to the HSE Manager. Interacts with all relevant HSEQ Unit staff, internal departments for Construction, Engineering, PMD and Urban Planning, client representatives, and external contractors / consultants. Regularly interfaces with senior management and KSA and RC regulatory bodies to ensure alignment with environmental goals and compliance requirements.
What You'll Be Doing:
Ensure all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Develop and implement sustainability programs to reduce the environmental footprint of construction projects.
Conduct and oversee environmental impact assessments (EIA) and audits, with excellent experience in EIA processes and working within multi-disciplinary teams.
Provide training and guidance to construction teams on environmental best practices, compliance requirements, and conduct environmental training workshops as needed.
Lead investigations and response efforts for environmental incidents and non-compliance issues.
Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with regulatory bodies, community groups, and other stakeholders to address environmental concerns.
Identify opportunities for improving environmental performance and sustainability in construction processes.
Develop and implement waste management plans to ensure proper disposal and recycling of construction materials.
Oversee the monitoring of water and air quality at construction sites to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
Implement measures to protect local wildlife and habitats affected by construction activities.
Promote the efficient use of resources such as energy, water, and raw materials in construction projects.
Manage the process of obtaining necessary environmental permits and approvals for construction projects.
Stay updated with the latest environmental regulations, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve the company's environmental performance.
Develop and maintain environmental management systems and documentation.
Work closely with all RC Departments including Construction, PMD, Engineering, Urban Planning, Training HSE, Quality, Contractors, and other External Stakeholders.
Support the standardization of environmental strategy, plans, permitting, and templates.
Contribute to the understanding of technical knowledge, environmental legal requirements, and use local/global environmental standards to support technical excellence.
Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, such as rail, highways, energy, commercial, and residential.
Comprehensive skills development and implementation of ISO 14001 International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related environmental field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental management within the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Relevant certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or equivalent.
Chartered Environmental Status and full membership of IEMA, or a similar qualification with a relevant professional body.
Strong knowledge of KSA environmental regulations and compliance requirements, including KSA’s Royal Decree No. M/165 of 2020 and the KSA Environment Law.
Adequate knowledge, experience, and implementation of ISO 14001 International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
