In this role you will get to lead the planning function across multiple large-scale projects, ensuring that they are executed according to schedule, within scope, and within budget. This role involves managing a team of planners, developing project schedules, mitigating risks, and coordinating resources. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in project planning, a deep understanding of infrastructure and construction processes, and excellent leadership skills to drive project success. Job Description
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Planning Manager to join our team! In this role you will get to lead the planning function across multiple large-scale projects, ensuring that they are executed according to schedule, within scope, and within budget. This role involves managing a team of planners, developing project schedules, mitigating risks, and coordinating resources. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in project planning, a deep understanding of infrastructure and construction processes, and excellent leadership skills to drive project success. The Planning Manager will be instrumental in ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet organizational and client expectations.
What You’ll Be Doing
Strategic Planning & Project Oversight:
- Lead the development, maintenance, and management of project plans and schedules for large infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define project scopes, goals, milestones, and timelines.
- Ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget by effectively managing schedules, resources, and risks.
- Develop and implement strategies for optimizing project delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Manage a team of planners, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure effective planning and scheduling activities.
- Coordinate planning activities across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and project priorities.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, identify skill gaps, and provide opportunities for professional development within the planning team.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment, promoting the sharing of knowledge and best practices.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring that critical path activities are identified and managed effectively.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular reports to senior management, highlighting milestones, schedule changes, and potential risks to project timelines.
- Identify deviations from the plan and develop corrective actions to ensure that projects remain on track.
- Ensure effective communication of project timelines, milestones, and schedule changes to all relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project managers to allocate resources (labor, materials, equipment) effectively, ensuring that resources are available when needed.
- Monitor and manage resource utilization to prevent overallocation and ensure that resources are used efficiently.
- Work with procurement and logistics teams to ensure that required materials and equipment are delivered on time and according to schedule.
- Proactively identify potential risks to the project schedule, including delays, resource shortages, or external factors.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks, ensuring that projects are not disrupted.
- Ensure that risk management practices are consistently applied across all projects within the portfolio.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for planning-related matters with project managers, contractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed of project progress, schedule changes, and potential impacts on project timelines.
- Facilitate regular meetings with project teams to review project schedules and resolve any planning-related issues or conflicts.
- Evaluate current planning processes and identify opportunities for improvement to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and the latest project planning tools and techniques, implementing new solutions where applicable.
- Drive the adoption of planning software tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) to streamline planning processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Ensure that all planning activities adhere to relevant regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.
- Monitor compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Conduct audits of planning documentation and processes to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field. Advanced certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, APM, Prince2) are a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in project planning or scheduling, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
- Proven experience in planning large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in the airport or construction sectors.
- Strong track record of managing planning activities across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise in project scheduling and resource management, with proficiency in planning software tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies, construction processes, and best practices in project planning.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to identify and mitigate risks early in the planning process.
- In-depth knowledge of risk management, budgeting, and cost control practices in the context of planning.
- Certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), Prince2, APM, or other project management-related qualifications.
- Experience with airport construction or infrastructure planning.
- Familiarity with cost management processes and understanding the impact of planning on overall project budgets.
- Knowledge of Lean Construction or other project optimization methodologies.
- Ability to manage a team of planners and ensure high levels of team collaboration and efficiency.
