Job Description Summary
The Mental Health Counseling Specialist is responsible for delivering moderately complex individual, group, marital, and family counseling services to a diverse client population which includes but is not limited to: utilizing complex therapeutic techniques and modalities to enhance mental well.-being; providing counseling services (individual and group) such as evaluating patient’s mental health, conducting interviews and psychological assessments and observing behaviors to diagnose mental health conditions .-leading to a holistic wellbeing and coach patients towards full and active participation in their respective societies.
Minimum Education Required
Master in Counseling, Psychotherapy or related field
Professional Certifications Required
SCFHS License as applicable; Evidence.-Based Certification (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and 100 CME Hours of accredited courses that are directly related with the field.
Years of Experience
Minimum 10 years of Counseling, Psychotherapy or related experience and 2,000 hours of supervised training
Operational Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans for high risk patients with complex psychiatric and psychological disorders utilizing a broad range of therapeutic methods eg Cognitive Behavioral Therapy DBT Interpersonal Therapy Acceptance Therapy Group Therapy Family Therapy
- Evaluate treatment outcomes continuously and adapt plans to improve patient progress ensuring an ongoing assessment of effectiveness and adjusting methods accordingly
- Facilitate group therapy and workshops for patients with chronic mental health conditions fostering a supportive and educational environment to improve coping strategies and interpersonal skills
- Consult regularly with other clinicians and medical professionals to ensure integrated care across disciplines advocating for patient needs and wellbeing
- Play an active leadership role in crisis management coordinating immediate responses and providing long term therapeutic solutions for patients in acute distress
- Provide mentorship and clinical supervision to less experienced counselors offering guidance in treatment planning therapeutic approaches and professional development
- Engage in research collaborations or contribute to clinical research projects advancing the knowledge base of mental health practices and influencing program design
- Contribute to strategic program development by identifying gaps in service delivery and offering recommendations for new initiatives or improvements based on clinical trends and patient needs
- Consult on and manage complex clinical cases and psychiatric emergencies offering expert judgment and intervention strategies for high risk patients Lead efforts during psychiatric crises and manage patient care in high stress situations
- Lead and manage crisis intervention teams developing and implementing advanced therapeutic strategies for managing mental health emergencies and training others in best practices
- Play a key role in multidisciplinary meetings contributing to program design case conferences and decision making processes to improve patient care and treatment protocols
- Advocate for the development of new programs and services that align with patient needs emerging mental health trends and best practices Ensure that proposed initiatives meet accreditation standards and ethical guidelines
