Position Overview
The Lead Estimator - MEP is responsible for leading the estimation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for construction projects. This role involves preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure that all estimates align with project specifications, budgets, and timelines. The Lead Estimator - MEP will also supervise and mentor junior estimators, ensuring all MEP systems estimates are complete and reflect the most current pricing and market conditions.

Position Overview
The Lead Estimator - MEP is responsible for leading the estimation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for construction projects. This role involves preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure that all estimates align with project specifications, budgets, and timelines. The Lead Estimator - MEP will also supervise and mentor junior estimators, ensuring all MEP systems estimates are complete and reflect the most current pricing and market conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation for MEP Systems: Lead the development of cost estimates for MEP systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project scope and requirements.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of estimators, providing guidance on MEP-specific estimating techniques and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of estimates.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to gather data and ensure estimates reflect project specifications and client expectations.
- Budget Management: Ensure that all MEP-related cost estimates are within budget, monitoring costs and making adjustments as necessary to mitigate risks and maintain financial control.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research and analyze historical data to ensure estimates reflect current labor rates, material costs, and other relevant pricing information.
- Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential risks related to MEP systems and cost estimation, recommending strategies to minimize impact on the project.
- Client Communication: Present cost estimates and justifications to clients and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and understanding of the estimation process.
- Process Improvement: Continuously improve MEP estimation processes and methodologies, implementing best practices to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and cost savings.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on the status of MEP cost estimates and any changes or variances to management and stakeholders.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or equivalent is a plus.
- Experience: At least 10+ years of experience in estimating MEP systems for construction projects, with a proven track record in estimating MEP components and systems.
- Leadership: Strong leadership experience, including managing and mentoring teams of estimators and overseeing the full estimation process for MEP systems.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess project specifications and develop detailed, accurate cost estimates.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting and explaining complex MEP estimates to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Tools & Technologies: Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certification in Certified Cost Professional (CCP) or MEP Estimating.
- Experience with LEED or sustainability practices related to MEP systems.
- Familiarity with industry-specific standards and regulations for MEP systems.
