Job Description

WSP Middle East is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Mining based in Riyadh, KSA, to establish and lead our Major Programs Mining & Minerals business line in the region. This strategic leadership role will combine business development, project delivery oversight, commercial and financial management, and client relationship excellence to drive growth and successful delivery in one of our key sectors. As a leader within the Middle East region, with global connectivity, this role will require a blend of technical expertise, project leadership, business development acumen, and strategic client engagement.

You will be responsible for shaping the direction of the mining business line, building strong teams, and delivering complex, major mining programs that align with WSP’s global standards and regional ambitions

Responsibilities

Business Development & Strategy:

  • Serve as the founding leader for WSP’s Mining & Minerals major programs business in the Middle East, establishing market presence and credibility.
  • Navigate regional regulatory frameworks, cultural dynamics, and client expectations to build a sustainable business footprint.
  • Define and execute the growth strategy for the Mining & Minerals business line across the Middle East.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities, capitalize on your existing relationships with government entities, mining operators, and strategic investors.
  • Lead bid preparation and proposal development, including pricing, risk assessments, and contract terms.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, and effectively represent WSP in meetings, workshops, and site-based engagements.
  • Prepare proposals, technical reports, and client-facing documentation aligned with project and business objectives.
  • Lead the setup and execution of PMC frameworks for large-scale mining programs.
  • Develop delivery models tailored to regional client needs, including owner’s team services and integrated project controls.


Strategic Oversight of Advisory & Design Streams:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Mining Advisory and Design service lines.
  • Ensure alignment with global technical teams and leverage international expertise to support and grow regional delivery.
  • Drive integration across service lines to create a unified client offering – from pit to port, from exploration to closure.


Project Delivery & Operations:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the successful end-to-end delivery of major mining projects including feasibility studies, mine planning, delivery, and closure phases.
  • Implement and enforce project delivery governance, quality standards, safety protocols, and risk management frameworks.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.


Client Relationship & Stakeholder Management:

  • Develop and maintain trusted advisor relationships with key clients, government agencies, regulators, and industry partners.
  • Represent WSP at industry forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings to enhance brand positioning and business opportunities.
  • Be proactive in identifying opportunities to improve client outcomes and exceed expectations.


Commercial & Financial Leadership:

  • Take full P&L accountability for the Mining & Minerals major programs business line, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Manage commercial agreements, contracts, claims, and scope changes to protect company interests and maximize profitability.
  • Drive cost control initiatives and optimize resource allocation.


Leadership & Team Development:

  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of mining professionals across technical, commercial, and operational disciplines.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Mineral Processing, Geology, or related field; master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 15–20 years of experience in the mining sector, with exposure to consulting and operator-side roles in the Middle East region.
  • Familiarity with regional mining regulations, standards, and market dynamics is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in business development and establishing new business lines or service offerings.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing P&L, contracts, and financial performance.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale mining projects or programs in the Middle East or similar regions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and drive change effectively.
