Director - Media Playback Systems

We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Media Playback Systems to lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge media server and playback solutions for a world-class immersive venue. Role Overview

As Director of Media Playback Systems, you will take ownership of the full lifecycle of media playback systems - from architecture design and technology selection to testing, deployment, and operational standards. You will work closely with creative teams, technical experts, and global technology vendors to ensure flawless delivery of immersive experiences across multiple display systems and interactive environments.

This role requires a deep technical background, strong project leadership, and hands-on involvement in designing scalable, low-latency, and future-proof media playback solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the specification, design, and development of media playback systems for large-scale immersive experiences.
• Architect and implement solutions for real-time and pre-rendered content delivery, ensuring high performance and synchronization across multiple systems.
• Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and vendors to enhance playback capabilities.
• Oversee rigorous testing programs, including failover, redundancy, and operational validations.
• Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Build and maintain relationships with hardware and software vendors, manufacturers, and technology partners.
• Collaborate closely with creative teams to align playback systems with content requirements.
• Ensure compliance with global and local standards, including media, cybersecurity, and operational regulations.

Background & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; additional qualifications are a plus.
• 10+ years of experience designing or managing media server and playback systems for large-scale venues, stadiums, or entertainment projects.
• Strong experience with SMPTE 2110, IP-based video workflows, and large-scale real-time media systems.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with external suppliers to deliver complex technical solutions.
• Excellent project management and budget oversight skills.
• Deep knowledge of media playback technologies, operational standards, and system testing practices.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
