Scope
In a senior staff capacity, commands assigned shift and assumes responsibility for the operation of the Division in firefighting, rescue, and incidents involving hazardous materials, emergency medical or other emergency calls. Supervises or coordinates activities of station officers. Acts as back up to Battalion or Fire protection Head (Fire Chief) during emergency operations.
Plants, industrial structures, and any other company properties within the response area. Work is performed under high-risk hazardous conditions such as high heat, explosive, or toxic atmospheres. Incumbent is responsible for the Initiation, development, implementation, coordination, and supervision of fire prevention, suppression, training, and fire safety education for the protection of life and property from fire of other disaster. The position involves administrative work in the direction of the activities of the division. Responsible for supervising firefighting, rescue operations, or other emergency calls. Enforces compliance with department policies, procedures and special instructions for the operation and maintenance of Company assets worth thousands of dollars. These assets include fire hoses, nozzles, ladder, salvage equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, rescue gear, first aid equipment, and personal protective clothing. The position also requires specialized work in the on-shift instruction and training of officers and firefighters to prevent and control fire effectively. Incumbent conducts tactical/operational skill evaluations to determine the effectiveness of on-shift training. Assigned to a fire station, responsibilities also include supervision of technical inspection and maintenance of high value primary fire equipment at Company facilities. Incumbent is the ranking authority on a rotating shift and responds to fires or other emergencies during all hours of the day and night, holidays and weekends, and under all types of weather conditions with performed indoors or outdoors. Work is demanding and requires a high degree of physical activity. Incumbent uses personal protective equipment suitable for the task. Incumbent supervises the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Company emergency vehicles. Duties and work assignments are usually in accordance with the standard operational procedures, and operational and maintenance requirements. Work requires attention to detail, the ability to follow orders of superior officers, and perform as part of a team. Incumbent works as part of an emergency incident command system, with little or no supervision, or independently, depending on the nature or type or work to be performed. Deputy Chief oversees several fire stations and is responsible for the supervision of 10 to 20 personnel within his rotating shift and any day workers during day shifts. These personnel have various levels of technical knowledge and drills and include Firefighters, apparatus operators, equipment technicians, fire inspectors, maintenance workers, and fire officers. Incumbent performs specific tasks assigned by superiors.
Degre
Bachelor degree with (8+) years of experience in Fire Protection Divisi
diploma, or equivalent. with (13) years of experience in Fire Protection Divisi
