Job Summary
We are creating a new organization with the aim to put a well-defined and standardized global Customs & Import operating model in place across all relevant dimensions, from compliance, customer service, operational efficiency to leveraging free-trade agreements and customs costs. We are now looking for a professional Customs Expert who will perform execution of continuous improvement for all processes associated with import /export and ensure end-to-end daily activities defined into Customs RACI and compliance with country rules and regulations. You will work directly with regional and local teams with operational/tactical customs activities (import and export flow) and provide stakeholders with customs and trade solutions.
The location for this position is Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and this is a permanent position.
What you will do
As Customs Expert, you will:
- Ensure 100% compliance with GACC customs regulations (GAZT/ZATCA, SFDA, SASO,Dubai Customs) and international trade regulations
- Point of contact for various regional customs authorities to ensure compliance, answer queries and providing support to stakeholders engaged in import and export activities across GCC.
- Be part of customs audits (AEO and etc.)
- Drive Operational interactions with brokers/3rd parties/customs authorities
- Identify potential optimization regarding operating costs within your GCC and opportunities for reducing customs duty spend with the usage of applicable customs regimes, correct HS codes, application of FTAs if applicable.
- Ensure end-to-end daily activities defined into Customs RACI and compliance with country rules and regulations
- Execution of continuous improvement for all processes associated with import /export and maintain control of all related and documented SOPs and working instructions
- Continuously monitor relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with partners in order to create visibility and to track their performance
- Streamline customs operations processes where possible aligned with local businesses needs and update RACI and work instructions if required.
- Ensure the correct Tariff classification of goods imported and exported, maintain an updated catalogue of materials, with its corresponding technical sheets, pictures and specifications required to support the Tariff classification.
- Prepare necessary documentations for filling applications related AEO, Draw Backs, Temporary Imports and etc.
- Track progress of all applications filled with customs authorities and escalate where necessary.
- Maintain centralised record for all import/export and duty exemption activities.
- Compile reconciliation statements for import/export activities on regular intervals for submission to authorities or customs agent as and when required.
- Monitor operational performance of customs broker.
We believe you have
- A Bachelors Degree in International Trade, Finance or related discipline.
- At least 6 plus years of hands-on experience managing import/export operations within a large organisation having direct and indirect trade flows.
- Background in sea and cross border logistics will be a plus.
- Solid understanding of AEO and concessionary regimes across middle east region
- Strong knowledge of Saudi Customs procedures, GCC customs laws, and international trade regulations.
- Knowledge of Valuation rulings related to Tetra Pak’s business
- Able to handle non-routine import/exports (Temporary Imports; Free Charge, Warranty Shipments and etc.) shipments across middle east region.
- Operational experience in preparing and submitting applications related to AEO certification/renewal.
- Good understanding of banking transactions and their linkage with import/export operations.
- Hands-on experience in Saudi Customs’ FASAH platform,ZATCA systems,Dubai Trade Portal and other regional customs platforms
- Knowledge of SASO/SABER and SFDA conformity programs.
- Familiarity with customs procedures for road and sea exports and transit trade to neighbouring countries (Kuwait,Iraq,UAE,Egypt and etc.)
- Knowledge of applicable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) between GCC countries and its trading partners.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions, levels, and cultures.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is a must
- A structured, proactive, and well-organized approach to managing tasks and projects.
- Effective conflict resolution capabilities.
- Experience in Customs Software or SAP is a plus
- Ability to handle large data sets and make analysis
- Domain in the office package, mainly Excel
- Strong stakeholders management skills
- Strong collaboration and conflict management skills
- An innovation mindset and a drive to find solutions and opportunities
- Saudi Nationals will be preferred
