The project:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Systems Assurance to join our Digital & Technology and Rail Systems team, supporting major rail and transportation programmes across the Middle East and Africa. The role will provide independent technical leadership, assurance, and strategic oversight of Systems Assurance, Safety Assurance, RAMS, and systems integration activities, ensuring delivery aligns with client requirements, industry standards, and programme objectives.
The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in railway systems assurance, safety and RAM management, multidisciplinary systems integration, and assurance governance within complex infrastructure environments. They will work closely with clients, delivery partners, designers, contractors, assessors, and operators to provide robust technical challenge and assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
You’ll be responsible for:
Systems Assurance & Safety Leadership

Provide independent systems assurance leadership across major rail and transit programmes, ensuring compliance with client requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable industry standards.

Establish and oversee Systems Assurance frameworks, processes, governance structures, and assurance strategies throughout the project lifecycle.

Lead the review and assurance of Systems Assurance Plans, System Safety Plans, RAM Plans, Verification & Validation Plans, and associated assurance deliverables.

Ensure the effective implementation of systems assurance processes across the full system lifecycle, including concept, design, development, testing, commissioning, handover, and operations readiness.
RAMS and Safety Assurance

Review and challenge RAMS strategies, quantitative targets, allocation methodologies, demonstration programmes, and lifecycle assurance activities.

Provide oversight of reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety activities to ensure alignment with project performance requirements.
Assess the adequacy and consistency of safety analyses and assurance evidence, including:

Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA)

System Hazard Analysis (SHA)

Sub-System Hazard Analysis (SSHA)
-
Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA)
-
Operational & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)

FMEA / FMECA
-
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

Event Tree Analysis (ETA)
-
Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD)
-
Common Cause Failure (CCF) Analysis

Support the review and acceptance of System Safety Cases and Safety Justifications in collaboration with Independent Safety Assessors and Client representatives.

Review and challenge RAMS strategies, quantitative targets, allocation methodologies, demonstration programmes, and lifecycle assurance activities.
Systems Integration & Verification
-
Monitor system integration activities across multidisciplinary rail systems, including signalling, telecommunications, SCADA, OCC, PSD, rolling stock, power, and operational technology systems.

Ensure requirements management, interface management, verification and validation activities are fully aligned with EN 50126 systems lifecycle requirements

Ensure interfaces between systems, disciplines, stakeholders, and programme packages are effectively managed and assured.

Review verification, validation, testing, commissioning, and systems acceptance activities to ensure compliance with assurance requirements.

Promote robust requirements management, traceability, and configuration control throughout the programme.
Assurance Governance

Oversee programme hazard management processes, hazard logs, safety databases, and assurance reporting tools to ensure traceability, transparency, and audit readiness.

Lead assurance reviews, technical audits, and compliance assessments across project delivery teams and suppliers.

Monitor assurance performance and provide independent technical challenge where risks, gaps, or non-conformances are identified.

Develop assurance dashboards, reports, and technical recommendations to support informed decision-making.
Stakeholder Management

Act as the primary systems assurance interface between Mace, the Client, Delivery Partners, Designers, Contractors, Operators, Independent Assessors, and Regulatory Authorities.

Represent Mace at technical review meetings, governance forums, assurance boards, and executive stakeholder engagements.

Provide clear, evidence-based assurance advice to senior programme leadership and client teams.

Support business development activities, technical proposals, and strategic advisory engagements relating to rail systems assurance and integration.
You’ll need to have:

Educated to degree level (or equivalent).
-
Strong technical leadership and systems thinking capability.
-
Excellent stakeholder engagement and client-facing communication skills.
-
Ability to provide independent, constructive, and evidence-based technical challenge.

Strong understanding of systems engineering and assurance principles underpinning EN 50126 and their practical application on complex rail programmes.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.

Experience working within complex, high-profile, multi-stakeholder programme environments.

Ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead assurance activities across organisational boundaries.
