Join our professional maritime command team as Master aboard our fleet. This leadership role is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, overall command of the ship and crew, compliance with international and company regulations, and the delivery of operational and commercial objectives. The Master will report to company management and be responsible for navigation, safety, crew management, cargo operations oversight, and maintaining the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS).

Primary Responsibilities for Master - command, safety, operational leadership

  • The role of the Master is to ensure the safe and efficient management of the vessel to the satisfaction of the Owners and the Charterer and to act as the Company Representative.

  • The responsibilities of the Master include, but are not limited to, the Health, Safety, Security, Cyber Security and Welfare of all personnel working on the offshore installation and the protection of the environment.

  • The Master is responsible for the operation of the vessel, the gangway and all other plant and equipment within safe limits and in accordance with the terms of the contract. They are the client’s and the diving operator’s (if relevant) contact person on board in connection with any contract. They will notify the owner of the consequences of deviating from the contract requirements and at no time shall they agree to any deviation without advising the owner.

  • Responsible for maintaining operational records and files on board and for ensuring that the certification is always kept up to date.

  • Responsible for the implementation of the Shipboard Management System. They shall, without delay, report to the Company possible modifications that they consider necessary to ensure safety and environmental protection. They are also responsible for regularly reviewing the system with a view to identifying and recommending improvements. A record of Master’s Reviews shall be maintained on board and is part of the Management Review.

  • The function of the Master is to evaluate all situations, whether normal or of an emergency nature, and to take proper actions to avoid or minimize potential damages or losses, with special regards to life.

  • Ensuring that any deficiencies that affect the seaworthiness of the vessel or the safety of navigation have been advised to Class and Flag State and that Port Authorities are also informed prior to port entry.

  • All decisions and actions should be based on the safety of personnel and equipment and to further the interests of the Company and the Client. The Master has the overall responsibility for the safety and integrity of the vessel and for the safety and discipline of the persons on board.

  • The Master is responsible for all reporting to appropriate authorities as required by law.

  • The Master is the Chairman of the Vessel Safety Committee and is normally required to organize and chair safety meetings with all representatives from all parties working and living on board. They are empowered to require co-operation from all persons on board in matters concerning health, safety and the environment, as well as in matters of hygiene and during any emergency.

  • They have responsibility to create a team spirit on board and to promote the shipboard management team.

  • Duties include evaluation of reported non-conformities, assessment of identified hazards, initiating corrective actions when and where required and verification of completed work and activities.

  • The Master is ultimately responsible for all activities on board and has therefore the duty to monitor safety awareness, emergency preparedness, hygiene procedures and health and welfare arrangements of all on board include sub-contractor personnel as well as of persons employed or sub-contracted by the client for specified duties on board.

  • Ensure IMCA guidelines are followed for Dynamic Positioning Operation, where applicable.

  • The Master is overall in charge for all emergency responses.

  • Issue appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner.

  • The Master may delegate verification to Officers but retains responsibility to ensure that the methods defined and documented by the Company are used.

  • Motivate the crew in the observation of the safety management system by ensuring that Safety Committee Meetings, Emergency Drills, training on safety related matters, screening of safety films carried out effectively as per schedule.

  • Each person on board must carry out any lawful command as requested by the Master and must follow instructions as given during emergencies.

  • Master is overall in charge of medical care on board. However, he can delegate a suitably qualified and responsible officer (except where the ship has a dedicated Medical Officer onboard) in order to carry out some of medical functions on board. The delegated officer is responsible for maintaining the vessel’s medical stores to the required levels. The medical locker is to be kept secured and the Ship Captain’s Medical Guide is to be readily available. Any injury or illness case that is beyond the scope of treatment onboard must be immediately referred to the nearest source of medical advice.

Required Qualifications - master certification, experience, medical fitness

  • Certificate of Competency as per STCW reg II/2

  • STCW endorsements

  • Valid Medical certificate

  • DP Unlimited License (for DP vessels only)

  • DP experience as per IMCA M 117

  • Minimum 12 months of experience in rank and similar type of vessel

Preferred Skills - sector experience, leadership, technical aptitude

  • Prior command experience on AHTS, offshore support, or energy-sector vessels is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with offshore operations, dynamic positioning awareness, and subsea or towing operations where applicable.

  • Training in advanced leadership, crisis management, or ISM/ISO internal auditing is advantageous.

  • Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills, and the ability to manage stakeholder relationships with charterers, ports, and regulatory authorities.

Work Environment & Conditions - seafaring life, rotations, responsibilities
  • Seagoing command position with rotational deployments; assignments may include extended periods onboard with defined on/off rotation schedules.

  • Work across offshore, port, and open-sea environments with exposure to varying weather and operational conditions; willingness to operate in confined spaces and around machinery as required by duties.

  • Must comply with medical fitness standards, vaccinations, and company pre-employment screening requirements.
