The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is seeking expressions of interest for PO3 Legal Officers. There are multiple temporary flexible full-time positions available in various locations across the state.
As a Legal Officer with the ODPP, you will play a key role in preparing cases referred for prosecution, contributing to the delivery of justice in Queensland. These roles provide a dynamic and rewarding environment where your expertise will support critical legal processes.

- Engage with Diverse Stakeholders: Build meaningful connections and collaborate effectively with defence counsel, solicitors, police officers, victims, and witnesses.
- Showcase Your Advocacy Skills: Represent the ODPP as an advocate in a variety of settings, including prosecuting or defending appeals in the District Court, handling sentences, bail applications, mentions, and callovers in the Magistrates and higher courts.
- Lead in Critical Hearings: Advocate in committal and summary hearings in the Magistrates Court, with opportunities to develop your expertise depending on the location.
- Support Those in Need: Provide vital liaison with complainants and their families, especially in sensitive and complex cases involving sexual and violent offences.
- Inspire and Lead: Mentor, motivate, and guide legal support staff, fostering a supportive and high-performing workplace culture.
- Drive Positive Change: Play an active role in initiatives that enhance work practices, empowering you to contribute to continuous improvement within the organisation.

Success in this position means excelling in the following areas:
- Driving Accountability and Results: Leverage your legal expertise to apply legal principles, draft key legal documents, provide sound legal advice, and act as an effective advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.
- Leading with Strategy: Use your strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult, and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring collaborative and strategic outcomes.
- Building Strong Relationships: Inspire and support your team by supervising, training, and mentoring legal and support staff. Demonstrate empathy and awareness in addressing the needs of victims of crime.
- Embracing Continuous Growth: Commit to upholding the highest professional and ethical standards while continually developing your skills and expertise.
