Job Brief
The Assistant Garment Technologist supports the Garment Technology team in ensuring Blooming garments are technically accurate, consistently fitted, and production ready from development through bulk. Working closely with Senior Garment Technologists, Design, Buying, suppliers, and quality teams, the role assists in protecting design intent while helping deliver garments that meet Blooming standards for fit, comfort, workmanship, durability, and quality.
This role focuses on applying technical best practices, supporting block and specification standardisation, maintaining accurate tech packs, and assisting with sampling, fit reviews, and critical path tracking across NOOS, core, and seasonal ranges.
Key Responsibilities
1) Product Development Support and Technical Coordination
Support Designers, Buyers, and Senior Garment Technologists in understanding design intent and customer requirements for each style. Assist in providing basic technical guidance on construction methods, materials, and garment components to ensure styles are fit for purpose, manufacturable, and aligned to Blooming quality standards.
2) Block and Pattern Standardisation Support
Assist in maintaining approved block libraries, base patterns, and standard specification templates by category and size range. Support the application of approved blocks and specs on repeat styles, escalating deviations to Senior Garment Technologists for review and documentation.
3) Tech Pack and Specification Accuracy
· Create and update tech packs, including measurements, construction details, grading information, and workmanship standards. Ensure all technical updates, comments, and approvals are accurately recorded in Airtable systems as the single source of truth.
4) Sampling, Fit, and Prototyping Coordination
- Pre-Fit Validation: Drive efficiency by measuring all samples against the tech pack prior to the fit session. Compare vendor-reported measurements against physical measurements to identify discrepancies before the garment is put on a model.
- Root Cause Analysis: Determine during fit sessions whether issues are caused by "out of spec" manufacturing or specific design/pattern flaws, ensuring we are fitting a style made to spec.
- Technical Documentation: Lead and document fit sessions, analyzing construction issues and translating decisions into clear pattern corrections. Input all technical comments into Airtable/PLM for precise vendor communication.
- Sample Integrity: Validate that technical adjustments are implemented accurately across follow-up samples (PPS/TOP), ensuring consistency across the supply base for repeat products.
- Supplier Performance: Build proactive relationships with suppliers to troubleshoot recurring measurement issues, driving better execution quality and reducing the number of fit rounds.
5) Critical Path Tracking and Delivery Support
- Own the technical critical path milestones and maintain weekly visibility of deadlines for sampling, fittings, approvals, PP, TOP, and testing.
- Proactively identify risks, escalate early, and propose mitigation actions to protect on time delivery and launch readiness.
- Ensure approvals and technical sign offs are completed within required timelines and communicated clearly to vendors and internal stakeholders.
6) Quality, Testing, and Compliance Support
· Ensure suppliers follow the established standards for fabric, trim, and garment testing in line with Blooming standards.
· Review of test reports and quality findings, ensuring results are logged, communicated to suppliers, and corrective actions are tracked under supervision.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Garment Technology, Fashion Technology, Textile Technology, Pattern Cutting, or a related field preferred.
- 0–3 years’ experience in garment technology, technical development, or a related role within apparel manufacturing or retail (internship or graduate experience acceptable).
- Basic understanding of garment construction, fit, pattern, grading, and factory production processes.
- Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, good organisational skills, and clear written communication.
