Position Details



The Youth Counselor is responsible for implementing interventions identified in each youth s treatment plan by providing direct care services in the program and community that are client centered, strengths based, and professional. The Youth Counselor will provide supervision and safety of youth, as well as recreational and therapeutic socially appropriate activities. The Youth Counselor will complete documentation within the 72 hour required timeframe. The Youth Counselor must possess and exhibit exceptional judgment, excellent verbal and written communication skills. These responsibilities are carried out under the direction of the Residential Supervisor.



Position Specifics



  • 2nd shift – 2:00-10:00 p.m. weekdays and weekends

  • Starting pay $15.00 per hour

  • 40 hours per week

  • Full-time Benefits offered

  • Position is located in Davenport, Iowa


Sign On & Retention Incentives



  • $100.00 after the 1st 30 days of full-time employment

  • $100.00 after 6 months of full-time employment

  • $200.00 after 1 year of full-time employment


Must maintain continuous full-time employment with no disciplinary actions.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Financial



  • Work with the Residential Supervisor for any purchases that need to be made.


Operations



  • Provides consistent, individualized reinforcement to a youth s behavior, using daily issues to teach and reinforce adaptive behaviors.

  • Utilizes a proactive/preventive method of intercepting problems to neutralize them before they escalate.

  • Strategically utilizes identified behavior management techniques and other de-escalation training to assist youths in developing appropriate behaviors.

  • Assists youth in developing insight into their behaviors so that they learn to self-identify and self correct.

  • Establishes a therapeutic relationship with the client based on trust and

  • Evaluates the impact of behavioral, group treatment, and life-space interventions and provides direction/feedback.

  • Assures consistent, ongoing, and timely provision for basic youth needs.

  • Follows medication management guidelines and delivery.

  • Attend assigned team and agency meetings and effectively participates in team to review case progress and provide best practices in programming.

  • Maintain good team participation and interaction.

  • Maintain postive role modeling and perform as an agent of change for the youth.

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Behavior Health Intervention Services (BHIS) and Medicaid requirements and standards.

  • Complete documentation of services in a timely manner (72 hours)– complete daily case notes, behavior management, injury and incident reports, visual checks, etc. before the end of the scheduled shift.

  • Remain awake and alert at all times. Provide ongoing supervision of residents by ensuring visual check guidelines are followed (complete room checks a minimum of every 15 minutes or more frequently as the needs of a youth may require until midnight. After midnight, visual checks are required to be completed at a minimum of every half hour.)

  • Ensure facilities are clean and well maintained. Tasks include but are not limited to the following: sweep and mop floors, dust, clean offices, collect and remove waste, clean refrigerators/cupboards, clean restrooms and replenish supplies, and wash walls/windows


Client/External



  • Ensures that communication with outside parties is coordinated and effectively builds positive relationships.

  • Interacts positively and professionally with youth and their families and support system members.

  • Safely transports youth to/from program activities and community resources monitoring behaviors and following agency transportation protocols if able to transport.

  • Understands the impact of youth s behaviors on their own actions/reactions in the workplace and utilizes team feedback to enhance the effectiveness of their interventions.

  • Knows the population and is aware of and implements the individualized treatment plan of each client.

  • Provides daily living supervision and treatment intervention.

  • Strategically utilizes identified behavior management techniques and other de-escalation training to assist youths in developing appropriate behaviors.


People



  • Collaborate with stakeholders and share necessary information to ensure all providers and supports understand and align with trauma informed interventions to accomplish critical goals.

  • Review and monitor components of care within treatment plan and identifies when changes in care approaches are needed.

  • Create a positive, inclusive, safe, client-led and outcome-oriented culture.

  • Serve as a public face of the Agency by interfacing with regulatory, community and funder leadership.

  • Ensures that communication with outside parties is coordinated and effectively builds positive relationships.


Qualifications



  • Must be at least 21 years old, bachelor's degree in human services and experience preferred, high school diploma or GED required.

  • To be eligible to provide BHIS services you must have a BA degree in a related field or a BA from a non-related field and completion of the 30 hours of BHIS training OR AA degree in social science field + 1 year experience in child mental health services OR High School Diploma/GED + a minimum of 5 years child mental health services experience.

  • Valid Drivers license in good standing and vehicle with appropriate auto insurance preferred. Must be able to pass the motor vehicle record background check.
