Job Description – Duties/Responsibilities

  • Abide by all Safety regulations and policies

  • Must wear all required PPE for any task/job currently being performed

  • Meet all production standards and efficiencies focusing on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost based on current routings/times

  • Perform daily housekeeping task. Help maintain 5S standards in your work location and whole department

  • Must be willing to work outside of your current Job Classification and Department as qualified and needed

  • Conducting and documenting inspections and audits of all Waste storage areas, visible emissions, waste and storm water outfalls and submit to EHS department

  • Inspection and sampling of all outflowing waste and storm water sources

  • Calibration and repair/replacement of technical equipment relating to sampling and washer maintenance as required

  • Follow and update ISO standard work procedures relating to washers and waste water as needed

  • Periodic flush, refill, and maintenance of washer tanks and spraying systems as needed

  • Keep pre-treat system chemically balanced

  • Properly label, consolidate, store, and identify all waste streams (universal, hazardous and non-hazardous)

  • Ensure that paint products used on all paint lines meet the quality, environmental, and application standards

  • Evaluate incoming Safety Data Sheets and Technical Data Sheets for regulatory compliance with current permitted values

  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily high solids, E-Coat, and solvent usage records

  • Perform daily maintenance of E-Coat system, make proper additions and ensure that the system is in spec with manufacturers recommendations.

  • Maintain inventory and control all color numbers and chips both master chip and sales color chips

  • Maintain E-Coat tank and record water additions, paint additions, temperature, viscosity, color, hardness, and gloss

  • Verify that shipment meets VOC requirements as specified by state environmental regulations

  • Assist supervisor in flow rating equipment, adjustment of spray atomization pressures, and reviewing application techniques

  • Assist paint technician as needed

  • Arrange for and perform periodic testing of paint coatings via salt spray /humidity chamber testing.

  • Assist EH&S with Temp/New Hire Safety Orientation

  • Recommend equipment and procedure changes to improve quantity and quality

  • Arrange for and run data pack through ovens periodically to ensure proper oven temperatures are being maintained.

  • Input energy and water usage and waste output reported via the EHS intranet site

  • Maintain forklift certification and safely operate forklift when needed

  • Accurately create, maintain and manage all records relating to waste shipments.

  • Ensure that all waste is stored, labeled and prepared for shipment as required by regulations.

Essential Skills & Experience Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Basic mechanical abilities

  • Organizational and communication skills

  • Desire to learn new skills and improve knowledge

  • Strong orientation toward safety, quality, and continuous improvement demonstrated by a work history of safe performance, accuracy and attention to detail in the work performed, constructive problem solving and suggestions for improvement, ability to effectively implement or respond to change, punctuality and consistent work attendance

  • Understanding and support of Company policies and procedures, including those related to Safety

  • Able to speak, read, and write in English

  • 3 to 5 years' experience as a manual spray painter or paint technician

  • Basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)

  • Able to collect data, populate data, and construct charts in Excel

  • Able to perform daily tasks with minimal supervision

  • Microsoft Office and general computer skills necessary

  • Knowledge of paint defects and potential causes of problems – particularly defects that are operator controlled desired

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Will be working in a manufacturing plant with varying climate

  • Must be able and willing to work daily and weekly overtime as required

  • Able to stand continuously for 8 to 10 hours daily

  • Able to lift up to 33 lbs and push and/or pull higher weight amounts

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces

  • Must be able to see and recognize full color pallet (Vision test required)

  • Must be able to work around chemicals, paint, and solvent odors

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Chemical handling, visible emission's certification (smoke school), DOT, and waste handling training required to be successfully completed within 6 months of hire.
