Job Description: Clayton Eye Center Surgical Coordinator Job Description

General Description: Oversees the operations of scheduling patients for surgery and preparing them for surgery on surgery day. The Surgical Coordinator must schedule office-based procedures consistent with patients diagnosis and Provider's procedure request. Qualifications: 1. A High School Diploma or equivalent 2. One (1) year experience Ophthalmology preferred but not required 3.Relevant experience with EHR software preferred but not required

L icensure/Certifications : 1. CPR certified 2.CPSS certified

Skills/Competencies : 1. Intermediate computer knowledge Microsoft Suite b. Electronic Health Records 2. Attention to detail 3. Team Player 4. Customer Service Responsibilities : Clinical Duties 1.Confer with patients to derive medical history and previous surgery information from them 2.Answer questions regarding paperwork involved for compliance with surgical procedures 3.Make appointment for surgeries, invasive and non-invasive procedures and ascertain the smooth flow and progression of scheduled cases 4.Schedule surgeries based on surgeons’ schedules and available dates 5.Assess tests to determine if patients are ready for surgery 6.Keep patients up to date with the status of surgeons’ schedules and scheduled surgeries 7.Assist patients in filling out forms and informing them of fees such as co-pays 8.May include assisting patients in filling out insurance forms and verify insurance coverage 9.Respond to patients’ pre-operative questions10.Discuss and instruct the patient on surgery eye drops 11.Send eye drop prescriptions 12.Ascertain that all consent forms are filled out and signed before schedule surgeries 13.Walk patients and families through instructions about “things to do” before and after surgeries

14.Walk patients and families through the “day of surgery process.”

15.Explain surgery to the patient and answer any questions patient may have regarding their surgery

16.Explain the risks and benefits of surgery

17.Schedule post-surgical appointments with doctors and necessary tests

18.Keep a clean and sanitary working environment

Administrative Duties 1.Using computer applications 2.Answering telephones 3.Greeting patients 4.Scanning and sending pertinent information 5.Assist with chart audits and quality assurances 6.Create face sheets 7.Update surgery information on the intranet 8.Create a surgery schedule if needed 9.Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein
