    GENERAL PURPOSE:

    This individual is responsible for maintenance of parks, trails, buildings, facilities, athletic fields, vehicles and equipment, under the direction of the Director of Parks and Planning.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



    • Plans and organizes activities of the parks department; coordinates with Division Managers, ensuring all objectives are met on a consistent basis.

    • Review and prepare costs for the annual budget, recommend park, building and facility improvements for the Capital budget.

    • Aids in the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of full-time and seasonal staff; monitors and approves payroll and overtime expenditures for the department.

    • Coordinates the direction and implementation of department’s grounds and parks maintenance program with the assistance of Division Managers.

    • Coordinates the direction and implementation of department’s natural areas resource management program.

    • Supervise and manage contractual vendors performing work for the department.

    • Coordinates the direction and implementation of department’s fleet and equipment maintenance program with the assistance of Division Managers.

    • Coordinates the direction and implementation of department’s building and facilities maintenance program with the assistance of Division Managers.

    • Routinely on call to support personnel and respond to emergencies.

    • Provides leadership to parks staff and oversees general work flow of the department.

    • Manages the purchasing of departmental supplies, services and equipment in accordance with District purchasing policy.

    • Works in coordination with all internal departments to reach overall strategic objectives of the District.

    • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.

    • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.

    • Respond to citizen inquiries related to the department.

    • Performs any additional related tasks as required.



    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 5 years supervisory experience in parks/recreation maintenance operations and/or operations management.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Parks Management, Facilities and Maintenance Management, Business Management, Horticulture or a combination of a high school degree with equivalent years of related experience.

    • Valid driver’s license required

    • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with agencies, businesses and community as a representative of the park district.

    • Experience in managing departmental budgets

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Pesticide applicator license required; ability to certify within 6 months of hire

    • Must have strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills

    • Strong organizational and project management experience
