Digital Copywriter


Position Summary:


The Hartford seeks an experienced Digital Copywriter with a knowledge of User Experience and User Interface design. You'll oversee the writing and editing within our digital portals, as well as emails, letters, microcopy, and other communications. You'll be part a core team of digital designers and product owners who are leading the charge for our continued digital transformation.


Key Abilities:


This job is all about writing in a conversational style. You should have experience in copywriting or journalism, and know how to write in a way that captures attention and communicates clearly. You'll need to be able to translate technical and financial jargon and concepts into simple, delightful language. You should also be able to apply some core UX principles and tools, such as journey mapping. And you should have good instincts on what excellent customer experiences look like. Knowledge of insurance and financial services is not essential, but you will be expected to quickly learn about our products and unique place in the market.


Collaborative:


The Digital Copywriter must be able to work extremely well with others on long-term creative projects. You should have a knack for sparking ideas in yourself and your teammates. You should also be able to interface with a variety of stakeholders within a cross-functional, matrixed organization.


Copywriting:


Your love of words is only superseded by your love of smart ideas that work hard without having audiences work hard to understand. And you're good with deadlines that range from plenty-of-time to we-needed-it yesterday. You are a fast worker and learner in any environment. Your writing packs a punch – short, compact and effective. More Hemingway than Faulkner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Highly developed critical thinking skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience at an external agency or in-house agency required

  • Prior experience writing for sales and acquisition

  • Experience UX writing

  • Experience in insurance writing is a preferred

  • Understands the nuances when writing different media and audience types

  • Actively learns new techniques to be more proficient in your persuasion skills

  • Writes and presents concepts and work, well

  • Respectively clarifies direction from team to help understand strategies or fill information gaps

  • Reviews the creative briefs to ensure you fully understand the objectives

  • Applies supplied research and data to design executions

  • Is pragmatic with creative executions always keeping an eye on the objectives of the assignment

  • Maintains accuracy and always delivers on time

  • Able to challenge conventional copy approaches with new tactics and innovative executions
