Assists the Director of Marketing & Communications and Associate Director of Marketing & Communications in generating relevant stories and content concerning the college and its various departments and programs. Works closely with faculty, staff, students, athletic department and alumni to effectively communicate the information to the college and general public. Works with various college departments to maintain a consistent, positive and dynamic image for the college.

Principal Accountabilities

Principal Accountabilities
Serves as the primary public relations professional sharing information with the community regarding the Blinn College athletic programs.



Principal Accountabilities
Manage athletic website buccaneersports.com and keep rosters, schedules and bios up-to-date. Regularly produce new content to attract visitors.



Principal Accountabilities
Coordinates the development of Blinn’s annual athletics recruiting guides.


Principal Accountabilities
Attends home athletic events and produces news releases and photography promoting the programs, coaches, and players.



Principal Accountabilities
Administrator of the official Blinn College athletic social media pages making daily posts, monitoring fan posts, providing support and direction to fans who frequently utilize the private messaging feature. Also provide analytics to Director of Marketing and Communications.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Three or more years of experience in journalism, public relations and/or communications.



Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or related field.

Minimum Competencies
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.



Minimum Competencies
Basic computer skills and desktop publishing experience.



Minimum Competencies
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, news media and the general public.



Minimum Competencies
Ability to prepare and distribute news releases within accepted journalist guidelines and AP style.



Minimum Competencies
Experience editing for style.



Minimum Competencies
Standard publishing quality photography skills.

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as requested.

Some travel required.


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Specialized training in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related field.

Experience in field of sports information or sports journalism.

Experience working in higher education communications.

Experience working in the newspaper industry.
