  • Massachusetts licensure as a secondary school social studies teacher.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Advanced educational preparation in History preferred)

  • Successful experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities, interests and needs.

  • Such other alternatives as the Superintendent may deem acceptable and appropriate.


  • Develop daily and long-range plans for each course taught relating them to the needs of the children.

  • Have familiarity with the new (2018) Massachusetts curriculum frameworks specifically as they relate to the grade 7 curriculum.

  • Implement a variety of teaching techniques to ensure student achievement and engagement.

  • Accept assignments in other areas for which they are trained or certified.

  • Develop and state a clear and consistent grading procedure for courses.

  • Keep accurately the appropriate grading and attendance records.

  • Develop and implement curriculum objectives based on the learning standards of the curriculum frameworks.

  • Evaluate each pupil's progress in social studies knowledge and skills.

  • Communicate with parents and counselors about the progress of individual students.

  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.

  • Effectively manage classroom operations.

  • Accept supervision and guidance from Department Head and Principal.

  • Continue to grow in the position through attendance at meetings, conferences, seminars, through readings in professional literature, and through enrollment in college or university courses.

  • Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, Department Head and/or Assistant Superintendent.
