JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the School Principal the Secretary II (Bilingual) provides services of a general, special, technical, sensitive, and/or confidential nature all with the ability to communicate in Spanish.





QUALIFICATIONS:




  • High school diploma or GED.


  • Ability to speak, read, write and translate the Spanish language.


  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience or training as a secretary.


  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and software-related job responsibilities.


  • A professional manner.


  • Good interpersonal communication skills.


  • A willingness and capability to work beyond the normal workday.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  • Answers telephone calls/take messages in Spanish and/or English (First responder to phone calls in the front office)


  • Manages the front counter in the morning, signing in students who are tardy to school.


  • Manages the front counter in the afternoon, signing out students at the end of the day when parents arrive to pick up students.


  • Organizes meetings (arrange parent conferences and coordinating conferences with siblings so that parents do not need to come to school on multiple occasions) as approved by the Principal.


  • Translates documents from English to Spanish and visa versa (notes, letters, PTA flyers, newsletters, board documents, and/ or anything that goes home to parents) as approved by the Principal.


  • Acts as an interpreter whenever needed (parent conferences, IEP meetings, evening events, etc.) as approved by the Principal.


  • Handles correspondence between outside agencies (communicate with the Department of Social Services (DSS), Mental Health, Choptank Community Health, etc. to coordinate services for our families) as approved by the Principal.


  • Arranges appointments for parents and students as approved by the Principal.


  • Manages databases in relation to enrollment of students.


  • Assists with typing letters and filing.


  • Attends evening events as the Spanish Interpreter (grade level nights, Back to School Night, PTA meetings, etc.) as approved by the Principal. This is an extra pay for extra duty assignment with additional payment.)


  • Arranges for interpreters at evening events as approved by the Principal.


  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.



PAY & HOURS:
This position is a 12-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education, Support Services Personnel Salary Schedule. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills, and training related to this position.
