The Consumer Insights Research Specialist at Bed Bath & Beyond has the unique opportunity to help build a newly established internal competency for deep consumer understanding. This individual will be responsible for facilitating market research activities that support strategic business initiatives that influence decision making for Bed Bath & Beyond, buybuy Baby and Harmon Face Values. The role will report to the Head of Insights, based in our Union, NJ headquarters.
You will lead a variety of qualitative and quantitative insights projects in partnership with outside research agencies and internal partners, including: scoping and recommending optimal research; leveraging a full range of insight generating tools, synthesizing/integrating various data resources and translating insights into actionable direction that guides strategy development. You must be collaborative and able to work cross-functionally to contribute to the development of multi-year consumer insights roadmap while also contributing to the establishment and socialization of a Customer Insights center of excellence.
Key areas of focus include:

Strategic Insight Development

  • Manage relationships with external research vendors and internal partners to develop learning plans in areas of Branding Execution, Owned Brands Development, Program Optimization, Concept/Message Testing, Omni-channel learning, and ongoing insights for strategic pillars.

  • Synthesize learnings across multiple studies and tools to develop holistic understanding of our Customers, their wants/needs/influences/barriers and develop actionable recommendations to address those learnings to develop better customer solutions that will help drive the business.

Brand Health Tracking

  • Leverage a suite of Brand Health Trackers of consumer perceptions for the Bed Bath & Beyond, buybuy BABY and Harmon Face Value brands within a competitive context and among target consumer groups/segments to understand and address opportunities in the business landscape

  • Evaluate the impact of advertising efforts on key brand performance indicators

Ad-hoc Research

  • Consult with internal clients in defining research needs/goals and executing appropriate studies to inform/drive business initiatives.

  • Implement qualitative and quantitative primary research using proven methodologies and techniques

  • Identify reputable external vendors to partner with and coordinate research projects/deliverables

  • Develop and present actionable recommendations based on data, analysis, and derived insights

  • Manage and prioritize ad-hoc research calendar and special projects based on evolving business needs in coordination with the broader Insights Team.

Functional Skills

  • Marketing Research Skills:
    Knowledge of an array of research methodologies, lead research projects, deliver results/recommendations and consult on business issues.

  • Analytic Skills:
    Ability to do analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, opportunities and gaps, and integrate across disparate data sources in a concise and influential, action-oriented communication/presentation style.

  • Communication Skills
    : Ability to communicate complex information and implications both verbally, in interactions with senior leaders and in written presentations utilizing “storytelling techniques” to communicate a clear, compelling, and cohesive narrative and inspire action with recommendations.

  • Presentation Skills:
    Solid deck-building and presentation skills to convey learnings/recommendations

  • Partnering Skills:
    Must be adept at partnering cross-functionally with other teams including marketing, analytics, and merchandising as well as functional leadership at senior levels.


  • Basic experience in designing and overseeing different qualitative and quantitative approaches that could include studies such as tracking, positioning/messaging, segmentation, A&Us, large-scale surveys, focus groups, customer journey mapping, etc.

  • Proficient in manipulating and analyzing data with common statistical tools

  • Experienced in managing and collaborating with research vendors

  • Experience executing hands-on, primary research

  • 1-3 years total experience as a research professional, preferably in Insights or Market Research groups

  • Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred
