Responsibilities



  • Performs routine and recurring weed management activities for the respective organization in accordance with all applicable resource management plans, environmental assessments, cooperative agreements, safety plans, etc.

  • Completes recurring tasks involved in inventorying, monitoring, and mapping existing weed populations utilizing global positioning systems and topographic maps.

  • Completes rangeland rehabilitation and restoration projects in compliance with all applicable resource management plans, environmental assessments, cooperative agreements, safety plans, etc.

  • Provides written comments on environmental assessments, resource management plan reviews, and other planning documents.

  • Works closely with other landowners and cooperators within the geographic area in order to ensure weed management efforts are successful.

Occasional travel - Travel to the field will be required. The amount of overnight travel to be determined by the nature of the work.

  • This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.

  • NO GOVERNMENT HOUSING IS AVAILABLE - securing housing will be the responsibility of the selected employee.

  • Candidates will be required to be 18 years of age prior to their entrance on duty in order to be authorized to operate a government vehicle. If selected, you will be required to provide verification of your age to the selecting official.


Qualifications


In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience.


You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: conducting weed treatments under the supervision of another licensed pesticide applicator, assists in inventory and monitoring weed infestations, maintaining spraying equipment and responsible for complying with proper application, storage, and handling of pesticides.

Education: Successful completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major in forestry, range management, agriculture or a subject-matter field directly related to the position or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources, outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering or wildland fire science. Not more than 6 semester hours in math is creditable.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.


Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending; walking or climbing over rocky areas, through dense vegetation, and in mountainous terrain. The incumbent must be in good physical condition, be able to lift heavy objects, and perform strenuous physical activity for prolonged periods of time. The incumbent may be required to carry up to 45 pounds on his/her back over uneven terrain.


Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The incumbent will carefully adhere to all safety policies and procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
