The ocular group within Research at Alnylam is seeking a highly motivated Principal Associate Scientist with experience in protein biomarkers (ligand binding assays) and cell culture to join our team to help advance novel RNAi programs from discovery to the clinic. The successful candidate will be technically skilled in a wide variety of ligand binding assays as well as in vitro systems, be a well-rounded scientist and bring diverse technical and analytical approaches to biological analysis. Previous experience in the ocular field and tissue imaging methods (example ISH and IHC) would be a plus.


Summary of Key Responsibilities



  • Develop ligand binding assays to enable protein biomarker work for ocular programs.


  • Identify novel biomarkers and validate assays to perform sample testing for Anlylam's ocular studies



  • Design, perform and analyze cell-based assays to help understand siRNA activity.

  • Help develop, advance and establish new in vitro systems to advance the ocular programs.

  • Design, execute experiments and perform data analysis, creating draft documents and presentations.

  • Present data to different groups within and outside of Research.

  • Help explore new technologies/ products and identify creative solutions to optimize current processes in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize new or existing assays.

  • Adapts well and exercises flexibility for changing platform needs, workflows and projects.


Qualifications



  • We require 6 years of research experience in an industrial (preferred) or academic setting working with protein biomarkers and cell based assays.

  • Excellent lab technique with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present data and work independently.

  • The candidate must thrive in a team environment and possess excellent communication skills (both written and oral). The role requires strong interpersonal skills, the capacity to multi-task, and the ability to function across teams. We particularly seek someone who is detail oriented and who will flourish in a goal-driven team environment under tight deadlines.

  • Candidates must have experience in each of the following areas:

  • Familiarity with in vitro and in vivo assays for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluations.

  • Purification and quantification of protein and tissue culture, experience with nucleic acids and tissue imaging techniques (example RNAscope) is a plus.

  • Experience with ocular diseases is preferred
