Position Overview:


The Blake School Child Care seeks a playful and energetic person to fill the position of part-time childcare teacher and on-call substitute. Part-time childcare teacher work hours are 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On-call childcare substitute hours are typically 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Employment during the 2022 summer child care program, and the Blake School spring and winter breaks may be offered based on child care enrollment numbers.


The Blake School Child Care is a Reggio-inspired, licensed child care for children of Blake School employees. The child care enrolls up to ten children ages three months to four-years-old.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:




  • Assist staff in implementing a progressive Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum based on the Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (MNECIPS) for children ages three months to four years old.




  • Substitute for absent staff members




  • Supervise and ensure the health and safety of the children at all times.




  • Use effective research-based strategies to support the children's behavior management skill development.




  • Support each child's individual needs, interests, and growth as well as the collaborative, creative process of the group experience.




  • Help maintain an organized, clean, aesthetically pleasing environment. The responsibility to clean and sanitize materials and surfaces is shared among all staff members.




  • Communicate effectively with families and coworkers



  • Meet yearly child care education and certification licensing requirements.


Experience and Skills:


Minimum Qualifications:




  • Bachelor degree with experience working with infants to four-year-olds in a licensed childcare setting or Associate degree with 3+ years of work experience in a licensed childcare setting. 5+ years of experience in a licensed childcare setting will be considered in lieu of formal education.




  • Knowledge of children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical developmental stages

Working Conditions:


Work environment is active, loud and messy throughout the day. Part of each day is spent outside.


Physical Requirements:


Position involves lifting, bending, squatting, reaching and pushing. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to get up from an down to the floor numerous times throughout the day. Will need to be able to react quickly to certain situations.
