Candidates must have one year of satisfactory experience in maintenance, construction, landscaping or in business operation.* At least 6 months of such experience must be at the supervisory level. Must be at least 18 years of age and have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Experience in business operation must include responsibilities dealing with the public, customer service and daily financial reporting and processing.

Duties Description

  • Responsible for assisting the caretaker with the overall on site management of NYS DEC Campgrounds including both operation and administrative duties.

  • Must live at campground on required shifts during period of employment, without exception (see Recreation Manual #211.1)

  • Must be willing to work undefined hours, ensuring continued operation of your park, with a limited, if any, amount of overtime. Must work all weekends and holidays through the summer, unless otherwise excused. Required to work through Columbus Day weekend, as term of employment.

  • Will be required to operate a personal computer for revenue accounting purposes and permit issuance.

  • Employee will be responsible for handling and accounting for all monies including petty cash, day use ticket sales, permit sales, pavilion rental sales, etc.

  • Will be required to complete necessary closeout Revenue Reports.

  • Must be willing and able to respond to emergencies at the facility regardless of the time factor, day/night.

  • Will be required to oversee and do manual work in park (such as maintaining roads, grounds and facilities, cleaning toilets, lifting garbage cans chest high, using rakes and shovels, and operating push/riding lawn mowers.)

  • Must be well groomed, wear issued uniform, as well as work shoes, no sneakers. Issued clothing must be kept clean and presentable.

  • Must be able to speak clearly and communicate with subordinates and the camping public, which includes enforcement of Rules and Regulations. Must be even tempered and capable of communicating with the public as well as subordinates in a professional manner.

  • Must be willing and able to read and understand the Campground Operations Manual and perform all functions defined within.

  • Will be required to supervise 3 or more employees, which includes Lifeguards, beach operation, Park Rangers, maintenance staff, and scheduling. Ensure that staff understand their job duties and any issues/concerns are addressed in a timely manner with clear direction on how to improve performance provided making sure to communicate any issues with supervisor. Ensure that payrolls are submitted and approved timely. Assignments should always take into consideration the safety of the employees. All injuries to staff must be reported in a timely manner as per guidance provided.

  • Will be required to enforce campsite rules and regulations.

  • Will be required to travel to other work locations based out of the Ray Brook office during off camping season. Other major duties will include, campground inventories, work order paper work processing and tracking (MMS), tracking of trainings, reports, camper refund processing, site restoration tracking, and various critical paperwork, ordering of supplies, technical writing, computer set up and trouble shooting, organizing meetings, monitoring general campground activity.

Additional Comments

Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must provide 24-hour response on a rotational basis and work during normal business hours. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds. Must reside in State Housing.

This is a temporary position with a duration through 3/31/22. Program needs will determine the termination date of this position. Work hours and schedule may vary, and will be discussed at the interview.
