Position description



The Dental Public Health Group at UCSF has an opening for a Specialist position in the following field:

Dental Public Health

Starting as soon as possible. Qualifications should include a dental degree and postgraduate certificate in Dental Public Health (see below for qualifications).

ENVIRONMENT: Diverse, multidisciplinary stakeholder group consisting of: dental and medical professionals, child care and child health advocates, school district, community-based organizations; and from academic, civic, and community sectors.


(DDS, DMD or foreign equivalent; postgraduate certificate in Dental Public Health): Specifications to be listed here.

Plan and manage oral health programs for children and youth with special health care needs, evaluate systems of care that impact oral health, lead collaborations on oral and public health issues, advocate for public health policy, legislation, and regulations to protect and promote the public’s oral health, and overall health of children and youth with special health care needs, integrate the social determinants of health into dental public health practice.

  • To leverage technology and address challenging questions in a hybrid working environment.
  • Excellent organization, communication (oral and writing skills) and interpersonal skills (needed to work as a collaborative team member with diverse groups); self-motivated with good time management skills.
  • Proficient in ability to use ethical discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Work independently yet being a strong team member; able to prioritize multiple tasks and competing priorities; demonstrate excellence in reliability and attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of dental care access issues that children with special healthcare need faces.
  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Experience working on projects on children and youth with special healthcare needs.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan programs and manage projects.
