Under the supervision of the On Site Shift Supervisor, the Diesel Industrial Mechanic performs skilled work in maintenance, repair and operation of complex buildings equipment and systems such as performed by a stationary engineer, air conditioning equipment mechanic, maintenance electrician and/or maintenance plumber/pipe fitter. The D/I Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment and maintains and provides for the safe condition and operation of heating and plumbing equipment.



  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on facilities, equipment or machinery.

  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs: wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing/pipe systems, physical structures, fixtures, paint, HVAC systems, locks/access systems, compressors, generators, engine, etc.

  • Diagnoses problems and determines corrective solutions, referring to and/or adhering to building codes, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and will reassemble equipment.

  • May lead other maintenance staff on projects or assist in a general maintenance capacity when others are in a lead role.

  • Maintain parts, supplies, and equipment advising the supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.

  • Maintain related records concerning time, labor and materials; maintain a log of tasks performed and write reports as necessary.

  • Resolve and complete work orders; work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing.

  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Safety First Environment through personal actions. Follow Corrective Action Plans to resolve quality and safety issues as they arise.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Demonstrate general knowledge of heating/cooling maintenance.

  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Demonstrate the ability to operate the specific tools used in the area of expertise, including related tools and equipment such as common hand and power tools, hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

  • Operating/adjusting building HVAC systems for efficiency and comfort.

  • Pursuant to Government Contract, must be a U.S. Citizen.


Maintain/troubleshoot/repair the following systems/equipment:



  • Chillers and chilled water systems.

  • Building HVAC equipment.

  • Boilers and hot water heating systems.

  • Domestic water and plumbing systems.

  • Electrical system including lighting, motors, starters, contractors, etc.
