Description


Summary


Diagnoses mechanical problems, services and repairs equipment including but not limited to:




  • Medium/Heavy duty trucks (Ford, Chevrolet, Freightliner, etc.)




  • Diamond core drill rigs (Boart Longyear, Duralite, Diedrich, etc.)




  • Light/Medium duty forklifts




  • Generator sets/Trash pumps (diesel & gasoline)



  • All-Terrain Vehicles or UTV's (John Deere, Polaris, Yamaha)


The candidate must bring their own basic tools (toolbox) to use on the job.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities




  • Diagnoses mechanical problems; repairs company equipment; such as but not limited to repairing brakes, transmissions, rear-ends, clutches, hydraulic systems, valves, pumps and electrical problems.




  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles routinely as needed.




  • Maintains records of work and schedules upcoming maintenance needs.




  • Keeps the shop, storage area and parts rooms clean and orderly.




  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.



  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.


Qualifications




  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.




  • Eight (8) years' work experience as a mechanic in the mining industry.




  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred.




  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and make repairs.




  • Knowledge of standard materials, tools and equipment and skill in the use and care of tools.



  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements


The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. Specific close vision is required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold non weather and to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have the stamina to work on 12 hour shifts for extended periods of time.


Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint. If the employee or contractor does not have valid identification, they will not be able to travel until valid identification is obtained and verified.
